So... Another shooting has people screaming "Ban guns" again... What happens when a nut takes a car through a crowd of people??? You gonna ban cars next???
@HootyTheNightOwl you also need to build public transportation and pedestrian friendly cities to be safe. Two wrongs don't make a right.
@Roundandroundwego Public gatherings are attractive to suicide bombers - sorry, they need to be banned, too.
@HootyTheNightOwl no, people gather safely and the war doesn't have to be the only future. But nobody can stop or reason with a war power like NATO! Obviously you don't need to be correct to kill everything and everyone,! Maybe people are important to running the show -. Maybe nobody will show up for RIMPAC some day....

You NEVER hear them say Thank God an armed citizen was there to stop the perp from shooting any/ more people...
Or whining to ban cars for that matter !
@Snuffy1957 More often than not, you hear that the shooter was killed by armed police than you do that it was another citizen who was armed.

That's neither here nor there, though. At the end of the day, banning guns at this point is like closing the door after the horse has already bolted - do you think that all the citizens are going to say "Yes, Mr. President" and form an orderly line to turn over their weapons for distruction??? There will be some who will keep their guns - the only difference is that you will only know where these guns were when their records were last updated.

@Roundandroundwego Where do people gather safely??? It's certainly not at school anymore... 9/11 was also an attack on innocent people who were just going about their work day as normal - and the guy who shot people on the strip and in the mall. Places where people congregate is the problem, so it's time to make those illegal.

If you have no crowds of people, then you have no need to drive your car into the crowd or to bomb concert halls and underground rail systems or even to carry out mass shootings.

@HootyTheNightOwl Cars have a beneficial use. So do knives. But a gun designed to kill people as quickly and efficiently as possible does not. I'm not talking about guns used for hunting or self-protection. And yes, enacting a ban now will have a limited impact immediately, but over time it will have a greater and greater impact as weapons of mass murder are reduced.

Nice deflection there; anything to avoid trying to face up to the fact that maybe, just maybe, banning the sale of handguns might just be a good idea...?
@SW-User Deflection??? Deflection of what??? At least I can see and accept that making things illegal doesn't solve the problem entirely.

Given that guns are all over America, it's going to take generations to eradicate them - you're looking at a "not in our lifetime" scenario here. Guns are already illegal in the UK... yet people are still getting shot - maybe not on the same scale, but the fact that it happens doesn't make anything "safer".

Do we agree that bombs are already illegal???

Great... Then, please explain why bombings are still a thing. The Ariana Grande bombing should never have happened because it's illegal to even have material related to bomb building.

@HootyTheNightOwl Serious question. Which is hard to ask after a such a foolish comment.

WHO is saying BAN GUNS? Specifically. I want to know who. Tell me dude.

Because in my country, which is the U.S., that has NEVER been on the table. Assault weapons? Completely different thing. Those are made for war. Just like hand grenades and RPG's. Those are banned. Where's your tears over those?

What's happened in the most fearful and cowardly in our country have been fed a steady stream of bullshit to the point that you it appears, and those like you, are so gutless and inhumane that you consider nothing outside of your own sad worlds. Dead babies and people want to curtail mass shootings means "they're comin' to take muh guns.'

Fucking pussies are running the show. Fuck them all.

Damn right they're not. Almost 10,000 people in the UK were being killed by firearms every year on average until 1996, when handguns were made illegal.

Now, 33 people died in the UK last year as a result of firearms offences. 33. That's all. Also, number of school shootings in the UK since 1996? None.

@SW-User Just this year, in the first 100 days, there have been 14 school shootings in the US with 10 dead and 14 wounded. We have had 158 shool shootings since 2018.

@windinhishair It's desperately sad. And the amount of deflections and whataboutisms I see on threads like this is devastating. Are these people truly evil?
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@SW-User I don't think they are evil, but many people have been conditioned to believe that we cannot have ANY restrictions on gun ownership. The results scream out for action, and we have reached a crisis point where the majority of Americans believe something needs to be done. But one party will not consider legislation for further gun restrictions, so we continue to spin out of control.
