Amsterdam , cleaning up its image .

Graylight · 51-55, F
Because we break everything. It's not enough Amsterdam is a liberal city (or can be). Groups of marauding idiots have to cause a rule change because they forgot their manners. You can have any kind of fun you want; just don't be the loudest person in the room.

I think as cannabis and more drugs are legalized, that particular glimmer will fade. It's be nice if people went to see the city for its history and charm.

@Graylight it has a lot to offer culturally. Splendid open spaces as well as the treasure houses of the arts .

Much as I like Amsterdam, I don’t find it especially liberal. You have to be very polite to cyclists, who rule the place.
devonman · 61-69, M
@MartinII I found the cyclists much better catered for than in most British cities , more cycle routes and places to park bikes . They were well separated from pedestrian walkways .
MartinII · 70-79, M
@devonman Absolutely. But my wife and I got into terrible trouble when we carelessly strayed from a walkway on to a high speed cycle route. A bit like wandering on to a motorway! And pedestrians have to give way to cyclists on inner city streets. As a pedestrian but not a cyclist I prefer the British approach in that respect!
devonman · 61-69, M
@MartinII I expect the locals are used to that . I found most cyclists conveying shopping or small children so riding slowly .

It is a very liberal city .
I have only visited once with my wife . We don’t smoke dope ( or anything ) an attraction for many .
We did watch a live sex show , very enjoyable .
One day was spent visiting museums and galleries .
An eclectic choice of amenities !
We did see quite a few groups of single men on stag visits . One group we chatted to were a pub sports team . None were rowdy , but this was during the day.

@devonman All these things are true, but I also find it quite bourgeois and respectable, except for the small area with sex shops and prostitutes. Nothing wrong with any of these various characteristics, of course!
devonman · 61-69, M
@MartinII only a small part of the city centre is dedicated to hedonistic pleasure . Sex shops , live shows and the small red light area .
We found lots of couples from all over Europe and beyond enjoying the live shows and bars around them .

We enjoyed the company one afternoon of a group of men , in an outside bar area . Just drinking and joking .

I think it too late the horse has bolted a liberated country will not change .
It's always Brits that are targeted as tourists... never the krouts.
Graylight · 51-55, F
@BritishFailedAesthetic Germans are easy to pick out. They're the ones who look like they're having no fun at all.
@Graylight 🤣🤣🤣👍
akindheart · 61-69, F
I will be there in August
devonman · 61-69, M
@akindheart It is an interesting, tolerant, liberal city. Its vibrant culture and history are often neglected
akindheart · 61-69, F
@devonman i can't wait to go and i will be visiting the red light district too. justpart of their country

Had a great time in the Dam on my 21st!
caesar7 · 61-69, M
...then we need to open up more red-light districts around the world. That should minimize the problem...👍😅😜
