The future is left

@BohemianBoo Liberals can be on left or right. Personally, I think of myself as a (relatively) right-wing liberal.

@MartinII Liberals can be left-leaning or right-leaning, but Liberalism is in the center of Conservatism on the Right, and Leftism on the Left.
So I don't think either can be the very opposite of the people in the center.

@BohemianBoo I don’t see liberalism as a left, right, or centrist thing. It describes particular poilicies or attitudes - for instance, free trade, freedom of expression and religion - which can be adopted by left or right. But not, I agree with you, by extreme left or right.

@MartinII The Right has always been against free speech and free religion. They've been against every movement to grant more freedom, then after they lose the culture war, they pretend they were always actually for that thing. Plus, Conservatism was reaction to Democracy, which the Right was against.

@BohemianBoo Sorry, but I completely disagree. (I’m speaking internationally, not only about the US, which I guess is where you are.)

@MartinII Name any country and it was the same.
The political terms "Left and Right" even come from the French Revolution. The people on the Left wanted to transition to Democracy, while the people on the Right wanted to keep the autocratic system they had.

@BohemianBoo But it was the revolutionaries (ie the left) who instigated dictatorship and the Terror!
