The attempted coup plot thickens

Former Trump White House lawyer Stefan Passantino, who is accused of attempting to get bombshell witness Cassidy Hutchinson to mislead the Jan. 6 committee, has left his job and is defending his actions during his stint as Hutchinson’s lawyer.

Passantino was Hutchinson’s attorney as she prepared to testify before the committee and was paid by Trump’s Save America PAC.

Its hard at this point to get excited about yet another Trumpist showing a lack of ethics and a willingness to engage in criminal behavior.

Its hardly an aberration at this point.

@MistyCee This guy was literally the White House Ethics Lawyer. The Trump Cult has no shame.
@windinhishair Mentioning ethics and Trump in the same sentence makes me laugh.

The real question is, how, can anyone who's ever supported Trump ever be trusted, and why.

@MistyCee Ethics and Trump is indeed laughable as a concept, though it is sad that so many people have sold their soul for him and given up their careers. Look at Giuliani, for example. He would have died with his legacy intact as a great mayor of New York who rose to the occasion following 9/11. And now, he will forever be known as the buffoon who supported Trump and committed crimes for him. And for what?
@windinhishair I really suspect alcohol as explaining Rudy, tbh.

@MistyCee When most people drink, it doesn't make them sell their souls to Trump for nothing.
@windinhishair I'm not saying booze is Rudy's only issue, but the guy was once a pretty respected guy and I really think, from watching him, that substance abuse played a role in his decline.

Not so much as a total excuse for betraying his paths as an attorney or throwing away his reputation, but it seems worth putting up as a mitigating factor, at least with regard to whatever professional licensure he might still have.

Criminally, Rudy is problematic, but my guess is, if push ever comes to shove, booze and maybe other mental issues will come up.

I kind of doubt it will, though, because I expect he'll die before that.
@MistyCee trump allowed Rudy to taste power.

And power corrupts the weak like trump and Rudy

@MistyCee I have no doubt Rudy had substance abuse issues. I suspect he has some pretty severe mental issues as well. I had read somewhere that Rudy supported Trump because Trump let him stay at Mar-a-Lago for awhile prior to his presidential campaign. Rudy was distraught about being out of the limelight and irrelevant and was having trouble dealing with that. Trump gave him purpose, however perverted that purpose was. In the end, Rudy has no one to blame but himself.
@Ryderbike Rudy had power, more than Trump, tbh, when he was mayor and Trump was making up Muslims rejoicing over 911 and bragging about how his buildings dominated the skyline.

The guy really was "America's mayor" and he pissed it away, culminating with his embrace of Trump, who pretty much shot his moral law and order crap to hell.
