Biden: "The idea we still allow semiautomatic weapons to be purchased is sick. It's just sick. It has no social redeeming values."

"Not a single, solitary rationale for it except profit for the gun manufacturer"

"Trump made it easier for the mentally ill to get guns when he rolled back Obama regulation
In 2017, Trump quietly rolled back an Obama-era regulation that made it harder for people with mental illness to buy guns.
Trump responded to the El Paso and Dayton mass shootings by insisting Monday that “mental illness pulls the trigger not the gun,” but shortly after taking office he quietly rolled back an Obama-era regulation that would have made it harder for people with mental illness to buy guns.
Trump did so without any fanfare. In fact, the news that Trump had signed the bill was at the bottom of a White House email that alerted the media to other legislation signed by the president.
@Ryderbike Please cite the Obama regulation and the Trump roll back.
@soar2newhighs Trump did so without any fanfare. In fact, the news that Trump had signed the bill was at the bottom of a White House email that alerted the media to other legislation signed by the president.

And it came after the House and Senate, both of which were Republican-controlled at the time, passed a bill, H.J. Res 40, which revoked the Obama-era regulation. The bill was sponsored by Rep. Sam Johnson, a Texas Republican who retired at the end of 2018.

Pressed by NBC News why Trump nullified the rule, White House spokesman Judd Deere said Tuesday: “This was a wide-ranging regulation promulgated in the 11th hour of the previous administration that included all kinds of people with disabilities who are more than capable of owning a firearm. The rule went too far.”
@Ryderbike Ok, you cited the Republicans. What was the Obama regulation?
@soar2newhighs look it up.

Preventing people who are ion social assistance because of mental illness from getting firearms.

Very reasonable bill.
@Ryderbike Well if you can cite it, that would be appreciated, and yes I would look it up.
@soar2newhighs President Donald Trump quietly signed a bill into law Tuesday rolling back an Obama-era regulation that made it harder for people with mental illnesses to purchase a gun.

The rule, which was finalized in December, added people receiving Social Security checks for mental illnesses and people deemed unfit to handle their own financial affairs to the national background check database.

Had the rule fully taken effect, the Obama administration predicted it would have added about 75,000 names to that database.

President Barack Obama recommended the now-nullified regulation in a 2013 memo following the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, which left 20 first graders and six others dead. The measure sought to block some people with severe mental health problems from buying guns.
@Ryderbike Just cite the regulation by number, ok? Not asking too much. You cited the Republican bill, so give me the Obama regulation.
@soar2newhighs you have Google ..do your own homework
@Ryderbike You post the Republican bill but either don’t know what the Obama bill is or you’re blowing smoke.

@Ryderbike I’m asking you cite the Obama regulation like you did the republicans roll back.

@soar2newhighs So, answer this, since you admit he's proven the GOP rolled back something, what the hell do you think they rolled back that you keep asking for "the Obama regulation"?
@OggggO I just read the 2013 recommendation Obama put forth. It was considered an infringement on people’s rights., and was considered broadly painting all those “ identified “ as having mental health issues. Its repeal was even supported by the ACLU.
You obviously read the news articles on it, right?

Too often where people are known to have potential mental health issues, and own firearms, their actions and often social network activities signal a potential threat to others, those who might have stepped in, didn’t or couldn’t.

Dealing with people with mental health issues is for many agencies, a fine line to walk.

@soar2newhighs The ACLU also supports protecting the speech of nazis, then is continually amazed and horrified when those same nazis use that speech to organize and attack minorities and government officials. So fuck 'em, I don't give a shit what they have to say on guns.

Gosh, if only we had laws and agencies designed to prevent people showing warning signs from buying guns and committing acts of violence. But no, it's obviously the fault of random citizens without any training or resources for not intervening on their own.
@OggggO gun laws clearly don’t work
