It probably has a lot to do with mindset. Generally people get into business because they need to work and earn money to put food on the table.
Others create businesses around ideas that they think will change the way people do things aka entrepreneurs.
Others decide they think can do better than the current crop of politicians in wanting ti make changes in the community so they get into local body politics to do that or they decide to run for a seat in the senate. The main problem with politics is that you have to be able to get people to believe your way of thinking then along the way you get bogged down in political infighting.

@justanothername becoming a politician to "put food on the table" just seems so wrong. shouldn't some at least be able to do basic stuff like cashier, waitress, or truck driver?
justanothername · 51-55, M
@SusanInFlorida Workers aim to put food on their table. Politicians desire to make a change.
SusanInFlorida · 31-35, F
@justanothername Yes! That's why we have a huge budget deficit, the worlds largest army, and shitty schools. politicians putting us first, lol
justanothername · 51-55, M
@SusanInFlorida You will find that people in other countries do have similar views of the politicians in their country so you are not alone.
SusanInFlorida · 31-35, F
@justanothername they're entitled to misgovern their own countries, if that's what the people want. 98 year old dwarf queens. Ex KGB agents as presidents. Acolytes of Mussilini. Mexican drug cartel supporters.
justanothername · 51-55, M
@SusanInFlorida People generally don’t want ex KGB agents in charge but these types of dictators tend to make their own success rather than get voted in.
If you look at countries like the UK, France, Canada, Australia, Norway etc you will see countries that have democratic voting systems where people vote for who they want. The outcomes are probably never ideal for both sides but that’s how the system works.

@justanothername you can have anyone you want, as long as its a fair election, and they don't create an army from prisoners and mental patients to invade the country next door.
justanothername · 51-55, M
@SusanInFlorida That’s Russia and Putin does what he wants. Russia doesn’t have votes. The Kremlin decides who will be President.

@justanothername my point exactly we shouldn't cooperate with dictatorshps. no space stations. no virus research labs. no jets for sale. no emergency food aid
justanothername · 51-55, M
@SusanInFlorida Cooperation with dictators usually goes without question. That’s why they are Dictators. If you disagree you are arrested. If you protest you are shot.

@justanothername i was speaking from the perspective of US foreign policy. Most nations - including us - would do better if weren't supporting their dictators, selling them weapons, granting them "special trade status", etc
justanothername · 51-55, M
@SusanInFlorida I agree but the problem with having a dictator in charge is that you don’t have a choice. Dictators usually get in by force and stay in until their regime is toppled.
With a democratically elected government you get to vote for change every 3-4 years depending on the presidential term.

@justanothername i'm not in any way defending any sort of unelected leader. Not in
Russia
china
north korea
cuba
Iran
Saudi Arabia
Monaco
I even have problems with the way they select the "European union leader". THATS not a publicly elected office, either

@SusanInFlorida Monaco Prince and Princess is part of the European royal family.
EU leader is elected by the other EU member nations. It’s all part of the process.
