@checkoutanytime here's a little history lesson for you. Slavery existed and was protected by law in all 13 American colonies when they declared independence from England in 1776. Many of the major founding fathers owned numerous slaves. Including George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and James Madison. Benjamin Franklin own two slaves. Thomas Jefferson kept between 165 and 225 slaves on his Virginia plantations between 1776 and 1826. 17 of the 55 delegates to the Constitutional Convention owned a total of about 1,400 slaves. Of the first 12 presidents 8 were slave owners.

Abraham Lincoln stated that he was not fighting the South to free the slaves but to stop the south from seceding from the Union. Abraham Lincoln stated it was his sacred Duty to preserve the Union.

@James25 im from here, i know all about it. You know the mason dixon line, and the underground railroad, like i said the North would give slaves independence after a debt was paid, the times were different, to twist it like the broadcaster was is changing history.

@checkoutanytime I do not know to what degree slaves were given the ability to purchase the freedom or how many slaves were actually able to do that. But that is not the point. I do think that Republicans are trying to hide the truth about American history by preventing teachers from teaching the truth about slavery in our country. And you are certainly entitled to your opinion with regards to that issue. But I would have to disagree.
