We all know where this starts but I'm fascinated/horrified to see where it leads.
Like there's a wild social tension where reactionary views are clearly winning but are also unpopular and unprofitable.
There has to be a point in this where Adidas doesn't drop Kanye and instead reinforces his ravings. Like when do the corporations stop pretending to be woke.

Yeah, this is 'both-sidesism' a-la fishhook theory. Neoliberal centrism triangulated with the Third Reich in a death spiral because of 'freedom'. I'll be watching closely to see how much he censors the left.

@Burnley123 Well and what I mean is a tenant of fascism is private industry that reinforces the ideology.
Take Disney which is as cynically capitalist as you get, but it pushes a progressive agenda cause that makes it money. Black mermaid etc. They're on the other side of the culture war.
The fascists want Disney to cowtow to their agenda.
So the question is if that happens and when because that will mark an enormous, even more terrifying social shift because they're so goddamn powerful.

I've been reading a lot about the economy of the Third Reich recently. It's perhaps the final solution (sorry) of capitalism. If the profit motive is what drives society and reinforces social/ideological structures, then why would liberal democracy be necessary any more than it absolutely has to be? The universal franchise was a result of union power in the late 19th and early twentieth century as much as anything else and as that gets weakened...
We have seen a profound crisis of capitalism in recent years but we know that crises don't always go left. As the neoliberal state proves inadequate to control the mess that it made... I know you understand my thinking.
The Budjack's of this world whine at 'woke' Disney but this is a short-term tactical issue. If the liberal progressive agenda gets as far as properly critiquing power structures (where are Kaepernik's shoes made?) Then the corporations have to abandon it and go all-in with the hard right. At the moment, the marketing benefits from being seen as socially progressive, even though their reason d'etra pushes hard for the opposite.

Tend to agree with this...

...can't see any way it ends well for Musk/Twitter if he insists on setting himself up as the ultimate arbiter of "free speech", which of course as a massive narcissist we know he will, and allows far right hate speech/ conspiracy theories to flourish?

@PSuss1 We know his political leanings and will do just that and in doing so alienate a lot of users.
Good article btw.
Good article btw.
The is how the Rwandan genocide started. Through extremists on the radio. Now we have fox and Facebook and Twitter pushing extremism.

@basilfawlty89 yeah and Novatra media gets banned again
At least thus makes it obvious to all these tech dudes what side Musk is on. I.e. a hard right partisan.

@Burnley123 I'd like to apologise for possibly South Africa's worst export.

Musk says he did not order it so maybe it was a set up by his Twit employees.

@SW-User the fact that you defend the likes of Kanye, well lamenting a "left" figure like Ethan Klein lets me know already which side of the aisle you're on.
You're not in any position to "highlight" my "poor logic" as literature your first post in the thread is a logical fallacy. You immediately went into whataboutism, in legal terms, tu quoque fallacy. I didn't answer initially as it wasn't worthy of a reply. Furthermore you assumed I could give the first crap about Ethan Klein. I don't. Outside of having an attractive wife, I know nothing about him.
Your argument is reduced to "no, you".
