I am a registered Libertarian. I don’t support all their positions but Libertarians are way better than the Uniparty.
@redredred Yeah, because differences in taxation, abortion rights, free speech, immigration, etc. are irrelevant. If Trump and Obama weren’t different colors, I couldn’t tell them apart! Same for Clarence Thomas and RBG.

“Uniparty” LOL

@LeopoldBloom I understand it’s not clear to you and others indoctrinated as you are but to the Uniparty, policy is irrelevant. They don’t care about anything but power.

The so-called democrats shrieked and rent their garments about the SCOTUS decision on abortion. During the fifty years Row was law, they had three separate opportunities ( with congressional majorities and a democrat in the White House) to codify abortion rights into federal law. They didn’t do so. Why? Because doing so is solving a problem and neither party wants to solve a problem they can use as a wedge issue.

It’s all about power. It doesn’t matter to the swamp which wing of the Uniparty is nominally in charge so long they have power. Mitch McConnell and Chuck Schumer differ not much at all.
@redredred The reason the Democrats didn't enshrine abortion rights into law is because they assumed it wasn't necessary; after all, we had a Supreme Court decision, and the Supreme Court rarely if ever has rescinded a right once granted. The Republicans didn't pass a law against abortion when they had the chance for the same reason. Both sides assumed that the abortion debate had a judicial solution, not a legislative one.

I agree that both parties are after power, but to call them a "uniparty" is absurd. Do you actually think that Mitch McConnell will be happy to end his career as minority leader because it makes no difference to him if Chuck Schumer is majority leader? Do you think Kevin McCarthy is happy with Nancy Pelosi as House Speaker because they're both members of the same "uniparty?"

@LeopoldBloom RBG Clearly warned against depending upon Roecand she dud do more than once. Legs look redundancy are a common feature of legislation. The Civil Rights acts and the voting rights acts of the sixties were putatively unnecessary in view of the 13th and 14th amendments.

The reason the democrats never voted on abortion is the cowards were unwilling to put their names on the legislation because, in their fever dreams, they were all destined to run for president one day.

The Uniparty is a reality and yes, like politicians everywhere they have their differences and represent a range of views but they all work ONLY for power. With one or two possible exception the only things a constituency represents to them are votes and contributions.
@redredred Saying it's a uniparty because all they want is power is incredibly simplistic. It's like saying both parties are identical because both think the US should continue its existence as a constitutional republic. If you don't care about power, why are there libertarian candidates? Obviously, they want to gain power so they can impose their vision onto the rest of us, same as the Democrats, Republicans, Greens, etc. If libertarians didn't care about power, they wouldn't run for office. They'd attempt to persuade people instead.

Neither party made any effort to legislate abortion, either for or against, because they assumed it was a judicial issue. It was also the perfect issue for Republicans, allowing candidates to take a "principled" stand while never being held accountable for failing to actually outlaw it. The problem is, the true believers took over and now the dog has caught the fire truck.

If the Democrats keep their majority in Congress, it will be due to rage over the Dobbs decision.

@LeopoldBloom Keep dancing. RBG warned politicians and anyone who would listen that Roe was very weakly based constitutionally and yet the left wing of the Uniparty continued to use it as a wedge to hold power, suggesting repeatedly that if the right wing of the Uniparty ever took power they would undermine it. Now they have and the balance of power in congress is about to shift. The left sowed the wind and will now reap the whirlwind.

If you really think there is any significant interest in government to represent the “electorate” it might be time for your nap and a blankey.
@redredred I agree, Roe was a weak decision. I would have preferred one based on the common-law right to self-defense as nearly everyone accepts that. I'm sure when we have a liberal majority on the court again and the next abortion rights case is before them, it will be decided on much firmer grounds than the "penumbra of rights" Roe was based on. What's really needed is a constitutional amendment, or failing that, an actual law.

If you think the balance of power in Congress is about to shift, maybe it's time for your nap and blankey. You're underestimating how pissed off people are at the theocratic Federalist Society hacks. It didn't help that Thomas spilled the beans on his plans to outlaw contraception and same-sex marriage next. He left out interracial marriage, I wonder why.

@LeopoldBloom Ha, no poll outside of Northampton Ma or Berkeley Ca shows abortion as a top three issue. $5 gasoline and &7 ground beef and 9% inflation are more important issue, Joe Stupid stumbling into nuclear war is also a bit of concern for most people.

Congress is changing hands, bank on it. The left side of the Uniparty screwed the pooch.
@redredred We'll know in a few weeks. Better get ready to start bleating about the "stolen election" again.
