from Mike Franken, U.S. Navy Vice-Admiral (ret.) - On insurrection. He is running for Senator (D. Iowa)

"The Jan. 6 insurrection and the GOP’s feckless decision to stand by Donald J. Trump is proof enough: There is a Cold War raging for the future of our democracy, and ‘General’ McConnell and ‘Lieutenant’ Grassley are fighting for the wrong side.

I served our country for nearly four decades in the U.S. Navy. I swore an oath to defend our Constitution against all threats – foreign and domestic. I’m now running for Senate against Chuck Grassley because I can’t think of anything more un-American than gleefully accepting the endorsement of a deranged man who tried to overthrow 232 years of peaceful transfer of power. It’s time to call it what it was: treason. "

Regardless of branch never vote for a general officer as they are very political and set in their ways

He is right about treason, but this country is not and has never been a democracy, it is a plutocracy, government by and for the wealthy and powerful. Our constitution was created by a bunch of wealthy white guys, some of them slave owners, who didn't want to pay their taxes. Sound familiar?

@hunkalove I believe the basic structure of our government as set forth in the Constitution; a system of checks and balances with 3 co-equal branches of government, is a good one. In my view, the biggest mistake in the Constitution is the Electoral College. It should be eliminated or at least neutralized.

Our biggest problem is that our Congress has been subverted by corporate money. Corporations bribe our Congress people and president with campaign contributions. Once they take the money our representatives are beholden to wealthy interests. The disastrous 2010 Citizens v United decision by the Supreme Court made the situation much worse. After Citizens v. United our politics was flooded with 'dark money' - undisclosed campaign contributions. Repealing Citizens United is the single most important action to restore our Congress to ALL the people, not just corporations and billionaires.
Making peace, getting democracy to function in a civil society -. Murkans do not have the choice to vote for anything like that. They're really too dumb to stop the two parties or the oligarchy.
