At least the Abrams hybrid tanks kind of make sense. They supposedly aren't about the environment, but are about running silent and not easily detectable by heat censors.
So I guess you juice up your battery at night, and fill your tank with diesel. In the morning you sneak up on the enemy with electric, blast them, and then flip the switch to diesel, crack open a Bud, and head back to camp.
