Im pretty sure the reason she's a Democrat is because her family were Democrats. Also, if youre running for statewide office in Hawaii, you pretty much have to be a Democrat.

She's also traditionally, except for foreign policy and her stance on homosexuality, taken Democratic positions on most things. She's supported drug legalization and the Green New Deal, for instance.
