By the very same logic, are we (🇮🇹) entitled to claim ownership of (most of) the rest of the continent and north Africa too?
Ya know, Romans built a lot of sh*t, way more than Russian Tsars and Bolsheviks did

@Elessar I think I may have told you this before. One of my fave cousins is married to an Italian woman (she's from Rome) and I often tease her about Italian cuisine and its origins. I was with them all last week and told her about the Hawaiian pizza thing.
After some furious googling on her phone, she disgustedly threw it on the seat beside her and said a lot of stuff in Italian that I couldn't understand. She was not a happy Mamma Romana.
My cousin then told me about an incident that had happened recently. She was not well (a second bout of Covid) so cooking duties fell to him. She gave him simple instructions for a pasta dish which he, of course (he's a guy so didn't listen properly), messed up.
She took one forkful and yelled at him:
"You don't care about the pasta!!!!"
He related that last bit in a heavy Italian accent, complete with appropriate hand gestures.
I literally had tears streaming down my face from laughing so hard.

@Elessar I love Gino, he's awesome. Went to one of his restaurants many years ago, in London. Spectacular food.
Yeah, how he reacted is pretty much exactly how Mamma Romana reacted to the news that a Greek invented pineapple on pizza.😂😂😂
I know I never told you the "You don't care about the pasta" story before, I only heard it last week myself. But I'm sure that I 've mentioned my cousin and his awesome Italian wife before🤷♂️

@room101 @KiwiBird It's reasonable to think there's probably a much more complex situation than it appears to be.
Greece exiled him for either this or some other culinary crime we haven't heard of. Canada being nice ol' Canada accepted his plea for asylum, but little they knew they would've been the theater of this crime against humanity. In fear of being the target of a joint offensive by a potential military alliance that would've arisen between Mediterranean countries to combat this new treat to global security, they've quickly shifted the blame to Hawaii - a territory under the direct protection of the United States, much harder to attack, in order to buy time.
Now however that it's clear both Greece and Canada are somehow involved, the whole geopolitical equilibrium is no more.
