A man armed with a knife jumped on stage and attacked New York Republican nominee for governor Rep. Lee Zeldin during an outdoor campaign rally in the Rochester suburb of Perinton Thursday night. The man reportedly wrestled with Zeldin but was subdued by someone else at the rally. Zeldin was not hurt in the attack and finished his speech.

The attempted assassin David G. Jakubonis, 43, from Fairport, New York was charged with second degree felony and later released from custody.

Just want to add some facts to this. He wasn't armed with a knife, it was a $10 My Kitty Plastic Self-Defense Keychain and the guy was drunk and he was an Iraq war Veteran.

@cassysassy Then what his intent? He attempted to assault Zeldin. His intoxication and the fact that he is an ex Iraq war veteran are not factors mitigating his actions. He should be held in custody.

@soar2newhighs because it says in the post "a man armed with a knife" which is wrong. And its pretty important to know he was intoxicated while doing this. And its interesting to know that he was an Iraq war vet. These are all details that are pretty important. Why do you think they should be excluded or lied about?

@cassysassy Add them, that’s fine. He still attempted to assault Zeldin. But he has been released, and as I see it, he’s a potential threat.
