What if we don’t get Trump Vs Biden, or even Kamala Harris for that matter, but instead a battle between Gavin Newsom (California Governor), and Ron DeSantis (Florida Governor)? Who would you vote for?

DeSantis didn't even have the brains to look into the consequences of revoking the decades-old agreement allowing Disney to run their area as their own government.

If he's that stupid at the *state* level...smh

@SomeMichGuy That would require Disney to actually pay their taxes there so……..

@SomeMichGuy I mean... This area of central Florida exists only to serve tourists to Disney. Period. Housing, apartments, ancillary services, tourist attractions, gift shops, urgent cares... all of it's about handling Disney guests and those who support them. Well sell rafts and boogie boards in our grocery stores right next to the NASCAR memorabilia.

As it was, Disney was raking its employees over coals (Disney actually owns apartment buildings here that will rent at a reduced price to employees because they pay so little). Now we stand three choices: Give back the little luxuries given to the company that built this state and go on as usual; allow utter and complete collapse of this part of the region, which is in near-ghetto condition as it stands; or wait for the State of Florida to come in and assume control of the entirety of the center of the state, which is precisely DeSantis's authoritarian plan.
@Djac17 You need to look into the debt which the locals (& state?) would have to assume.

There's been extensive reporting about the effects of this (just like the official British assessments of the *costs* of Brexit), so you can easily find it.

Disney has been taking care of roads, water, sewer, garbage, fire, police, and development. There is a REASON that it's the "happiest place on Earth"--j7st drive through FL to get to Orlando and see what the State looks like. They got lucky that Walter Elias decided to buy the property, because it put that Central FL region on the map.

The local income from Disney is huge.

With no state *income* tax, FL doesn't get *that* piece, but the 6% sales tax pulls in a ton of $ from all those overpriced souvenirs, hotel rooms, etc. And it seems Orlando gets its own 0.5%, too.
