And while we gossip about Trump today...

The Supreme Court handed down a brief order Tuesday evening that effectively reinstates racially gerrymandered congressional maps in the state of Louisiana, at least for the 2022 election.

Under these maps, Black voters will control just one of Louisiana’s six congressional seats, despite the fact that African Americans make up nearly a third of the state’s population. Thus, the Court’s decision in Ardoin v. Robinson means that Black people will have half as much congressional representation as they would enjoy under maps where Black voters have as much opportunity to elect their own preferred candidate as white people in Louisiana.

Yes. We knew this was coming. Equal taxation, less representation. Can a new form of Jim Crow be far behind ?

@bijouxbroussard As fascinating as it is to repeat history within a different venue, I'm so ready for the adults to take over again.
@Graylight I was a child during the closing days of U.S.’s system of apartheid. My parents became adults while it was a fact of life in much of this country. It kills me particularly that they should see the "bad old days" return. But nobody can deny that whatever the GOP may’ve done or been in the past, they’re the party of white supremacy now.

@bijouxbroussard It's absolutely impossible to deny. For the 1st time, the Supreme Court reversed a decision simply because they didn't like it. For the 1st time, the US Constitution has been used to restrict the rights of others whereas it has always and only been amended to protect freedoms and rights.

I'm ashamed for the white-power screamers, I'm ashamed for America. This is not the best we are.
