It's actually a pretty regular occurrence at political events. The media department of any White House picks and chooses most of how a president appears on television. It's enforced largely though the cooperation. Access to a president since the assassination of President Kennedy has become far more controlled and most of the modern presidents hate that. The vast majority of politicians prefer to be with "the people." Their social skills are frequently their greatest asset. The idea of older people like Trump or Biden being diminished is just a fact, it comes from age, by neither man has dementia as Biden still has a firm grasp of both domestic and foreign policies and is an effective negotiator and Trump expresses his cognitive skills for entertainment value and is still a remarkably talented grifter, perhaps the most successful in American history.
