Dems run Hawaii-. There's no green energy, but three interstate freeways on one island and no social welfare.

Tents along the streets "house" the elderly.
Very Dem.
A report released Thursday (4/7) shows homelessness on the Neighbor Islands hasn’t changed much over the last two years and on Maui actually decreased. Data collected in the 2022 Point-in-Time Count shows overall homelessness on the Neighbor Islands is up less than 1% since 2020. On Jan. 23, volunteers counted a total of 2022 homeless people in Kauai, Maui and Hawaii islands. That’s both people living on the street and in shelters.
The large number of homeless individuals in Hawaii are disproportionately Native Hawaiian. Other demographics include veterans and young adults of all ages. These individuals speak English and typically suffer high rates of mental illness, addiction, and PTSD. Hawaiian homeless have an average life expectancy of 53 years of age (USICH, 2020). Challenges facing human service workers in Hawaii range include limited resources such as shelters, section 8 funding, and affordable apartments (Homelessness Initiative, 2018). Workers must routinely turn away individuals who need assistance due to lack of resources.

Want to have better society? Take social welfare seriously. We pay lip service to mental health and housing and give nothing toward it. We mock the addicted and ignore the afflicted. We have exactly the society we've created.

Incidentally, the state with the worst gun problem and highest poverty has been run by Republicans for decades. But I wouldn't recommend rushing off to Mississippi any time soon.

@Graylight we had"our social safety net" in place on Oahu, and cops surrounded the homeless and cut us off from them in a thirty day stand of in a Honolulu parking area in 2004. It's been overt class war since. Murka is beating down Aloha.

@Changeisgonnacome Sadly, what most citizens don't even know is that it's always been that way with Hawaii. We invaded, stole the land, deposed the king and called the islands ours. But look at all the natives got in return.
🙄

@Graylight it has been a mixed bag. The queen herself said everyone would be homeless unless the Americans came to their senses and changed their economic system. But in the sixties through the eighties you could live outdoors in plain sight and get donations, and not be hassled.

There is a very large wind farm on the Big Island, but, watch Dog the Bounty Hunter, and the slum areas on Oahu are unbelievable!!!

@fanuc2013 Every city in the US. It's where we put all the "thems" we keep marginalizing.

@fanuc2013 Dog the bounty Hunter put my posterior on TV but never asked my other end for permission. Great guy.
