Would It Be Fair To Say..

Would it be fair to say that people who are unwilling to compromise on the issues of guns to reduce the amount of people being killed, love their guns more than they respect life?

If you are sold on the idea that the guns are the problem, then yes. But are the guns the problem?
@marciamom Yes and in combination with the fact that they are getting into the hands of people who are mental. Common sense gun regulations need to be implemented.

@Spunkylama I'm not very political, but I'm kind of old. Do you think guns are more available than in previous years or the desire in people's heads to shoot up schools is stronger than it's been?
@marciamom Yes and the more these shootings happen the more people buy guns as the "they are coming for our guns" rhetoric amps up. I think easy access to guns and people with mental issues are what is driving the problem. Restrict access to them and provide actual mental healthcare then these will be more rare. There is no way to completely eliminate this evil but we really should be doing everything we can to stop it from happening.

Age restrictions, gun licenses, increasing $$$$$$ for said guns and ammo, training, psychological exams, etc should be implemented. If someone has a mental disorder then they are banned from owning and operating a gun.

@Spunkylama I mostly agree. I think it's a mental health issue more than anything. You can kill someone with a staple gun too. But only a lunatic would do such a thing. A normal person is safe with 100 staple guns
@marciamom Yes, but we can't compare a staple gun to an AR15..
@marciamom When, in life, have you really only had one problem, as opposed to several things contributing to cause problems?

OP reduced things to binary, and it's easy to say that's wrong, e.g, if you value some lives more than others or have other issues with the question, but the response that guns are not "the" problem, is quite frankly, really maddening.

Yes, its hard to argue with the fact that guns don't kill people and they are just tools, but tools have their place, like explosives and toxic chemicals, and as long as we're stuck with a binary discussion about guns in everyone's hands everywhere at all times vs no guns anywhere legally, we'll continue to make no progress in dealing with the problem.

Sorry if I jumped on my soapbox, but binary thinking is one of my pet peeves.
