You realise Ukraine isn't part of NATO though, right?
Abstraction · 61-69, M
@Tinkles Yes, that's very obvious. And?
It's on the same level that if I saw an old man being beaten up on the streets, I would intervene and it would probably cost me. But that's called humanity.

@Tinkles You realize that the US & Russia & Ukraine had a memorandum of understanding that Russia would not do what they've done, and the US would aid Ukraine if Russia violated the agreement, right?
@SomeMichGuy that's fine but don't drag the rest of NATO into that agreement
@Abstraction except this started 8 years ago without the world so much as squeaking. So I'm a tad confused why you think that someone who has rejected an organisation now should have it's full backing
SomeMichGuy · M
@Tinkles The rest of NATO--and others--are behaving as they are because they saw under 6 yrs of Nazi war, but 44-45 or 46 yrs of Soviet occupation.
Finland, Sweden, Switzerland didn't abandon neutrality on a whim, and the first two didn't get interested in NATO because they felt happy...they see the specter of a rising Russia and have heard Russia lay out its plans for a few years. It scares them.
You are too ignorant of history in this matter. Read up on the Second World War. The Poles said that the Nazis were bad, but the Soviets, worse.

@SomeMichGuy that still hasn't got anything to do with other NATO members apparently not being supportive to Ukraine, despite having no obligation to provide support.

@SomeMichGuy personal insults, I must be making sense
SomeMichGuy · M
@Tinkles No, you make no sense:
That makes no sense.
But if you had read what I said, you'd realize I *did* explain why NATO members would provide support, even though they may not have been parties to the memorandum which I mentioned (which I think was your intended point, but not what you wrote).
Further, the Europeans know that appeasement didn't work for Hitler, and won't work for Russia, either.
So there are a few reasons, but you don't read (or don't understand what you *do* read), apparently have no knowledge of WWII, and are incoherent in your writing.
Think what you want. These countries want to survive and thrive. THAT's why they know Putin needs to be stopped NOW, not at the next country.
Those countries are just glad *you* aren't running their foreign policies.
