How many 18-year-olds own guns that have never shot anyone with them.
You can't penalize law-abiding citizens because of the actions of a law breaker.

@Dainbramadge 'You can't penalize law-abiding citizens because of the actions of a law breaker.'

No , you can actually. The UK did it after their one , and only , school shooting at Dunblane in 1996.

@RodionRomanovitch I can't believe you just tried to rationalize punishing law abiding 18-year-olds because one did something horrible.
That is insane thinking.
That is exactly why we have a constitution and a Bill of Rights.
To keep people like you from being allowed to push an agenda with new laws that would not do anything.
How did that no firearms in a school zone law work with the shooting?
Changeisgonnacome · 61-69, F
@Dainbramadge that's not punishment.

@RodionRomanovitch yea and look at how great it turned out for them your now more likely to be stabbed in London than shot in New York City.
You legally can not defend yourself against anything from robbery to RAPE AND MURDER.

I don't support a ban on guns or anything, but basically nobody actually abides by this principle. By this logic, it should be legal to build and own nuclear weapons and drive without a license plate. The price of living in a society where people can be safe is that we have to respect the right of everyone else to be safe, and that necessarily means reducing our own ability to harm other people, even if doing so is already criminal in itself (since criminals don't abide by the law). But unless you're a nuke rights advocate, I'm only telling you what you already know.

@Dainbramadge And I would add..
We already have all sorts of laws in place. Yet it stopped/stops nothing! How on earth could someone think a new law will change anything. It will get worse and we better brace up.
Graylight · 51-55, F
@Dainbramadge It's not penalization. Jesus. It's a change in the law. Happens all the time, so stop crying about it.
