Biden-backed ‘blue’ hydrogen may pollute more than coal, study finds
This article is more than 9 months old
Infrastructure bill includes $8bn to develop ‘clean hydrogen’ but study finds large emissions from production of ‘blue’ hydrogen
https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2021/aug/12/clean-fuel-blue-hydrogen-coal-study

Excerpt from article:

[Blue hydrogen involves splitting gas into hydrogen and carbon dioxide and then capturing and storing the CO2 to ensure it doesn’t heat the planet. But this process involves the incidental release of methane, a potent greenhouse gas, and uses a huge amount of energy to separate and then store the carbon dioxide, some of which escapes anyway.
This means that the production of this hydrogen actually creates 20% more greenhouse gases than coal, commonly regarded the most polluting fossil fuel, when being burned for heat, and 60% more than burning diesel, according to the new paper, published in the Energy Science & Engineering journal. ]

The greenies in the climate cult never dare have the facts on their side. Just a constant banging of the drum to ban all fossil fuels immediately.

We must disregard the facts, because the elite invest in these scams and they must profiteer from a rigged system?

The Leftist climate change cult politicians are picking the winners and losers within the business community, based upon their acquiescence to the green cultists.

The Leftist politicians and MSM within power are marketing propaganda ahead of facts. Who loses? The US consumer and planet earth.

Electrolysis is the best way to produce hydrogen. I'd use nuclear power plants to produce electricity.

@HoraceGreenley You are correct also and nuclear plants can produce hydrogen as a waste product. To use electrolysis will mean using metals like zinc, magnesium or some other metal and those now days come from China or India who and not very environmentally friendly in the purification of those metals for usable anodes. I use them in designing cathodic protection for tanks and pipes.

@acpguy Thanks. I didn't know that

What I thought you wrote was Blue eyed dragon from Yu-Gi-Oh

Very true as I worked for a large natural gas company and in order to get the Hydrogen they strip it out of natural gas. There is some unfriendly emissions when this is done however it is not as bad as using electricity produced from solar and wind.

Of course! Clean Coal, emits water vapor. 🙄
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
@Oster1 Well using fossil fuels to produce hydrogen defeats the purpose of using hydrogen

@Oster1 There are metals not friendly to the environment when using coal. In the upper Midwest there are many lakes that are so polluted by mercury that they do not allow fishing or they suggest not eating more than one or two fish per week / month caught out of them. The mercury comes from coal burning plants in China and comes out in the rain in the upper Midwest as the prevailing winds bring the stuff from China.
