It's Time for Hunting Season.

Once again Putin's propagandists are threatening the nuclear annihilation of Western Europe, with a recent commentator on state TV noting how their fast nuclear ballistic missiles can reach London and Paris.

Never mind that just one of UK's Vanguard ballistic missile submarines can lay waste to most of Russia in a retaliatory strike with its Trident II D5 SLBMs. Each sub carries 8-16 such missiles with 8 warheads each. The Royal Navy has four such vessels; at least one of which is always at sea.

But with intelliegence signs of Russia's effort to subdue Ukraine pointing to a poorly maintained military, perhaps it's time to go on the sea hunt again.

In the 1980s, the U.S. Navy would run exercises to shadow Soviet ballistic missile submarines just to let the Ruskies know we could quickly sink much of their second strike capabilities if they started a nuclear war by launching their ICBMs.

We could start doing that again, as well as starting to quickly intercept Russia bombers skirting NATO airspace. This can be done by having je fighters on patrol at all times, instead of allowing the Russians to test our scrambling capabilities. And if a Russian bomber actually enters NATO airspace, shoot it down.

It's time to give Putin a cross-check into the boards.

I’m sure both the U.S. and Royal Navy still tail Russian subs.

Discreetly, as subs do. 😉

BTW: Blind Man’s Bluff by Susan Sontag is a great book on the subject.

Also to contest their Navy in the Black Sea. That isn’t exclusively Russian.
