RIP Madeleine Albright

Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, the granddaughter of Holocaust survivors who fled Czechoslovakia as a child before later becoming America's top diplomat, has died. She was 84.
Albright's family said in a statement that the cause of death was cancer.

"She was surrounded by family and friends. We have lost a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend," her family said in the statement.

As the first female Secretary of State, Albright became the most powerful woman in American history in 1997. It would take another decade for Nancy Pelosi to secure the speaker's gavel and another 15 years before Vice President Kamala Harris' election. Unlike Pelosi and Harris, Albright was not in the presidential line of succession.

Unlike Pelosi and Harris, Albright was not in the presidential line of succession.

...but due to a Constitutionally-mandated "disability" to hold the office (Art. II, Sec. 1), not a because of any disability or defect inherent in her position as Secretary of State, which is the *first* Cabinet office to be named in the list of those who may succeed the President. (See 3 USC 19(d)(1), part of the codification of the Presential Succession Act of 1947, Pub.L. 80–199, 61 Stat. 380.)

For the same reason, our former Governor, the current Sec. of Energy, is ineligible for succession (as she was born in Canada).

I like Secretary Granholm; glad she's in the Cabinet.

As you mentioned, she's ineligible for the presidency. But not simply because she was born in Canada (Ted Cruz was, too; he's eligible). But unlike Cruz, both of Granholm's parents were Canadian citizens when she was born. They all moved to California when she was four.
@beckyromero Yes, she couldn't inherit citizenship from non-citizen parents.

It's a shame they couldn't have been visiting Seattle when their daughter was born.
@beckyromero Born on the Boeing tour? lol
