Jussie Smollett Ordered Released From Jail After Serving Less Than A Week

Jussie Smollett Ordered Released From Jail After Serving Less Than A Week Of 5 Month Sentence Pending Appeal

Convicted felon Jussie Smollett was ordered to be released from jail on Wednesday pending appeal of his 150-day sentence that went into effect last week for staging a hate crime hoax against himself and lying to law enforcement about it.

“The one-page order issued by the Illinois Appellate Court on Wednesday afternoon stated that Smollett was to be released from the Cook County Jail after signing a $150,000 recognizance bond, which would not require him to post any money,” the Chicago Tribune reported. “The only explanation offered in the order was that Smollett has never been convicted of a violent offense and would have completed his sentence of incarceration well before his appeal is decided.”

So, is this Black Privilege?
Just stickin it to whitey?
Two tier justice?
Hoe do we file this one?

Sorry, I couldn't resist...

The only explanation offered in the order was that Smollett has never been convicted of a violent offense and would have completed his sentence of incarceration well before his appeal is decided.

For all the people scratching their heads about this, it seems pretty straightforward to me.

Obviously even narcissists are permitted to appeal their sentences. If on appeal the sentence (or indeed conviction?) is found to have been unjust, he can't have his 150 days of jail time back (although he probably deserves them, that's not our call). If his appeal fails, he's still going to jail for the remainder of his 150 days - or he's going to jail for even longer, and $150k poorer, if he goes on the run.

I really don't think it's so-called "black privilege". It's just money privilege. Were Mr Smollett white and orchestrated a similar kind of attack on himself like the arrogant piece of _______ he seems to be, he would have had a similar sentence and chance of appeal under similar terms - the only difference being that folks at MSNBC would be complaining about privileged treatment instead.

America's principal problem seems to me (from the outside and across the Pond) to be a privilege of money rather than race; exactly the same issue as everyone faces (or can afford not to face) in the UK.

Which obviously isn't to deny there are racist POSs among every class, creed, profession or colour of people in every country too, but I think that's beside the point here: Smollett can simply afford not to go to jail for at least a while longer.

@Persephonee wise words.
@Persephonee Very well said!

Whoever is trying to imply Smollett is off the hook; that's clearly false. On the other hand, the fact that rich people can afford to tie their cases up in court for months or years hardly looks like justice.

Jesse's family is mentally disturbed.
And they represent much of today's Democrat party.
That's a sobering reality
