They lost many millions of people to defeat what was then considered (not unreasonably) the greatest land army on the planet. Those were different times when Ukrainians and Russians fought side by side. History has cruel ironies.

@graphite Do you ever read any history? The US didn't enter the European war until early 1942 and in February of 1943 the Germans surrendered in Russia. Yes, the US entering the war sure helped but the Germans were screwed in Russia long before America arrived in the war. We can all be thankful that Hitler was foolish enough to try and take on the Russians instead of focusing his armies on Europe first.

@spjennifer Plus Hitler was beaten as much by the country itself as the Russians. But your point about people fighting for their own nation is well made. It seems Putin may not have learned all the lessons Russia taught Hitler as he seems to be having supply line issues.😷
