I'm glad Trump is not president now.

Not a big fan of Biden at all, but I am quite thankful Trump is not president now. Imagine the chaos. Trump would still be sucking Putin's donger like he did for 4 years.

Weirdly, I don't think we'd have this issue. Russia's invasion of Ukraine is because the continued strengthening of NATO left Putin feeling like he had no other option. Back in 2016 I was convinced there would be war with Russia if Hillary Clinton got in office.

Trump was vehemently anti-NATO and pro-Russia. It is likely that Putin would have felt more confident about his chances with Trump in office and thus wouldn't do was is essentially an insane act of desperation. Trump worked for Russia and against NATO and keeping Russia strong would have averted this insane invasion.

That's not to say keeping Russia strong is a good thing. Fuck Putin and fuck Trump. But that's how geopolitics works.

@CountScrofula Exactly.

@CountScrofula That's what he says, for who still believe whatever he says; it could very well just be an expansionist move because he want to rebuild an empire, the man look all but rational to me at this point in time.

And if this whole thing was still happening with Trump at the other side.. that mutual destruction scenario would truly look scary.

@Elessar Sure but those dreams of empire are now taking shape now and not three years ago for a reason. If I'm Russia and I could go back in time, I'd attack during 2018 when Trump was in charge because he'd probably refuse to help Ukraine. Dude LOVES Russia.

I wanna stress that this invasion is a dumb idea, a war crime, and a catastrophe for Russia. But they attacked now for a reason.

Their entire western border is soon to be lined with US missiles, and Ukraine has viable natural gas reserves in the east and Crimea which could give Germany a huge new customer to buy gas from and cut Russia out.

That leaves them screwed militarily -and- economically. The answer is that Russia needs to reinvent itself but Putin ain't gonna resign and let that happen because his life may literally be on the line in this.
@CountScrofula well as long as he wont resign he's stuck with the mandate to develop renewables. Anyone talking about that?
