That's very strong term. I'll say no. However, we're clearly faced with corruption, as we have been since the revolution.

@Sacron22: The short form is, the plutocracy took over government in 1876, discarding the electoral winner (Tilden) & obtaining legalised access to public funds for their corporations and themselves, along with legalising "lobbying", i.e. corrupt payment for services to politicians. And ... this has continued ever since, and is still in force: examine the budget carefully & you'll see just how much money gets tucked away as corporate subsidies, through defence, agriculture, HUD

Thanks. I agree, re. corp subsidies (and by-industry tax breaks) plus lobbyists' de facto payments to officials I didn't know about 1876, but i'll check it out. @firefall:
