Why I don't provide sources

As a former progressive, now right wing supporter and amateur political pundit, many times I express my opinion and get asked to provide my "source" on the matter.

Unless I am directly quoting something or someone, I don't bother providing my sources for my opinion.

Let me explain why:

Typically, this sort of challenge is not in good faith and is usually someone's challenge to "prove it" to them. I used to provide sources. I recall many a time carefully going through my links, finding the best ones, then providing them for the challenger. More often than not, one of 3 things would happen:

1. They ignore it completely, move on, or pretend they never saw the links.
2. They reject it out of hand, usually claiming that the source is unreliable and does not meet their standards for consideration.
3. They cherry pick a portion of the article, claim it's wrong, and then dismiss the entire argument due to this one factoid they feel is erroneous.

I've interacted with a few exceptions on this site, and for those I will make an attempt to share my info, but more often than not, my suggestion is for people to do their own research.

It's what I do. If I hear something I am skeptical on, I do my own searches, consult my own sources, and make up my own mind as to its legitimacy.

Thanks for reading.

"I won't meet my burden of proof because some people will respond to it in stupid ways."

How cowardly. If someone uses a bullshit argument in response, that's their own damn problem. I've met innumerable people who actually respect good evidence. As long as you have credible sources, most people will respect them. The crazies won't, but that's just a sign to quit talking to them anyway.

@BlueVeins Well perhaps if you responded in good faith instead of bullshit quotes that don't exist and strawman arguments, you might find the debate more rewarding.

You don't seem to practice keeping an open mind, most of your comments are just like this, dismissive and condescending if you don't share the person's beliefs.

@SumKindaMunster No shit sherlock, it's not a quote. It's a characterization of the dumb shit you said in your post. You're literally saying that you won't back up the claims that you make with citations -- which are a form of evidence -- because some people will dismiss that evidence for stupid reasons. If you don't want me to be dismissive and condescending, then stop being ridiculous.

@BlueVeins Then why put quotation marks around it then? I've already speculated why:
most of your comments are just like this, dismissive and condescending if you don't share the person's beliefs
As far as this goes:
You're literally saying that you won't back up the claims that you make with citations
Like hell I said that. You need to work on your reading comprehension skills. Here is what I said:
Unless I am directly quoting something or someone, I don't bother providing my sources for my opinion.
My opinion. I don't need to provide a citation for my own fucking opinion you moron.

@SumKindaMunster
Then why put quotation marks around it then? I've already speculated why:
Because it's an easy way to denote it as a characterization of someone else's dumb fucking opinion, and anyone with a positive IQ could tell that it's not even remotely meant to be understood as a direct quote. But I guess I should've predicted that you wouldn't fall into that category.
My opinion. I don't need to provide a citation for my own fucking opinion you moron.
In other words, you're making a positive claim but failing to back it up with evidence. So literally exactly what I just said. The fact that it's an opinion doesn't absolve you of the burden of proof in any way unless you're literally talking about sensory tastes or something stupid like that. If your opinions don't have any kind of basis in fact, then you're not living in reality.

@BlueVeins Nonsense. You've purposefully misrepresented what I said as well as my point, taken offense at my push back and escalated the name calling, rhetoric and insults in turn.

There is nothing shameful in responding to your behavior in kind.

Anything else you wanna get off your chest before I move on?

@BlueVeins Because I've already addressed those points, repeatedly. You've chosen to ignore that and continue to escalate and misrepresent the situation.

It's pathetic.

@BlueVeins Ok, well I think I have been patient enough. You should review the psychological concept of projection, you are exhibiting a classic case of it.

Better luck next time with your bullshit! 👋
