The real tragedy of Jan 6 : It was the day Trump was kicked off Twitter.

" January 6 was a terrible day because it's the day Big Tech and the media kicked President Trump off Twitter and silenced his voice. That was a day that was an attack on our democracy."

- Ric Grenell, acting Director of National Intelligence under former President Donald Trump. (Newsmax , today.)

I got tired of listen to him repeat the big lie and I don't at all miss his bullshit but they should not have kicked him off because if they do it to him they can do it to anyone they disagree with.

@Subsumedpat What is the point of having rules if they aren’t enforced?
@Subsumedpat it's not about liking or disliking someone, but private companies can indeed choose what they allow and disallow on their platform within the boundaries of the law. If you agree to those terms and that a violation can get you kicked, don't be surprised to get kicked if you violate them. 🤷

@OggggO I understand that it is Twitters choice and their private system but all the big names act in unison to de-platform people, they silence one group today but it could be a different one tomorrow, they have enough control over who gets to talk that it is almost like a monopoly. There is a line somewhere they can cross.

@NerdyPotato There's a strong and important arguement though that thwsw companies have monopolized and fought so hard to expand that they have crossed themsleves over into the public utility relm and have through their own actions made them unfit for the "private space our rules" stance.

I'm kinda on board that they have made themselves so dominate without viable alternate avenues in thebpublic discourse that allowing them to continue under the rules of. "Private publication" isn't realistic, safe, or viable anymore.

I hate its comw down to defending Trump but the size and scope of these limited platforms and the power they fought so hard to monopolize over being the centers of common discourse has kinda made thay arguement hogwash and needing to be abolished.
@MethDozer That's a fair point.

@Subsumedpat That’s an argument for breaking up oversized companies, not for letting people incite violence online.

@OggggO What about flash mobs raiding stores in mass thefts timed on social media, people using social media to or castrate a so called peaceful protest turns violent and destructive causing way more damage and loss of life than the Trump nut jobs go unaddressed. The answer to incitement of violence it to go after all that do it not try to control speech which will not work anyway.
