- pushing someone away
- showing threatening force
- mace
- calling out for help

Ultimately, you're trying to deescalate the situation where you come out safely. Firing an assault rifle is not self defense... it is instant murder.

@SW-User self defense means surviving at all cost, not de-escalation. Considering in your country, people want to defund police, this kind of thing will become natural.

@QuixoticSoul while I appreciate your point of view, there was no need for him to bring a gun (let alone two) to a protest rally across state lines. That kid was looking for a fight, and he just happened to get away with it.

@SW-User Is it really self-defense if he put himself in that situation? If I punch someone, then they come at me, and I shoot them, that's not really self-defense.

@QuixoticSoul If I (with a concealed gun) approach someone on the street and say "You don't belong here. Leave." They step forward in a threatening manner... can I shoot them for fear of losing my gun?

@GohantheThird You're forgetting that the people threatening to kill him also had a gun, pretty convenient just because he didn't let himself get killed instead.

@DrSunnyTheSkeptic The guy with the gun would have likely got off if he just shot him - he also would have a reasonable case of fearing for his life, acting with limited situational awareness, etc.

That’s why these situations are so stupid in the first place - they set everyone up for deadly violence.

@DrSunnyTheSkeptic as I said, he should've never brought guns across state lines. Had he stayed where he was, none of this would've happened. This kid went in knowing full well there was going to be a fight. Had he stayed home with his guns, it would've been someone else on that stand. Not him.

@DrSunnyTheSkeptic I don’t think the charges against him were warranted, this is a correct verdict - but he is still a little shithead, and like Zimmerman, should be shunned and ridiculed for the rest of his life.

@DrSunnyTheSkeptic we "blame him" because he chose to be reckless and stupid. He took an AR-15 riffle to a BLM rally. He went looking for a fight. Had he stayed home, none of this would've happened.
