If your great uncle robbed a bank, would you feel guilty? Would you pay the money back to the bank's successor bank today? How far back do you consider to be relevant? If a distant ancestor held slaves in Rome, is that relevant?[Disclosure: A possible distant relative (connection uncertain) may have owned slaves.] The implied but unstated premise of the question is that I should feel guilty over the negative actions of others, a premise I deny as absurd.
