WTF? High School Male Faculty Given Lap Dances By Students Wearing Only Lingerie

Hazard Independent Superintendent Sondra Combs on Wednesday confirmed that she was investigating social media photos of homecoming activities at Hazard High School that showed scantily clad teenagers giving lap dances to staff, including the principal, who is also Hazard’s mayor.

“The incident is under investigation and as you know any thing under investigation I really can’t talk about,” Combs told the Herald-Leader.

This is a bizarre lapse in judgement, though also curiously hypocritical.

When male high school athletes dress in drag and sexualize a school event, someone needs to be able to draw the line quickly. It’s called “in loco parentis”.

And when this happens in a conservative town where trans-gender issues are aggressively marginalized, it’s eyebrow-raising to say the least.
@JoeyFoxx I really feel like some media outlets are trying to imply that these were girls giving lap dances to staff members. I could be wrong, but it feels like they're trying to present it as something it isn't.

@HUNT5M4N let’s assume that’s the case.

Are you saying that this was ok and not a significant lack of judgement for a high school homecoming celebration???

Some freshmen in October are likely still 13 years old.
@JoeyFoxx I didn't say anything like that. I don't approve of what happened, if you need to know, but it's quite obvious what the media is attempting to do. The situation is bad; therefore, there is no need to mislead anyone. If you can plant an idea in someone's head without actually saying it, you're pretty much clear of responsibility (that's how some people think). That, in my opinion, is happening here.

@HUNT5M4N I wasn’t trying to put words in your mouth. Apologies that it came across that way.

This is my point:

Does the media sensationalize things? Yes they do. This isn’t anything new.

They aren’t creating a narrative. They are trying to get ratings.

But, in this case, any sensationalization is irrelevant. The folks who run that school have to fix this. It’s not ok. Period.

Would that be better or worse? Seems girls were serving drinks in hooters uniforms instead.
@JoeyFoxx Yes, and I hope we can see the problem with that. We keep going back to the story, but I'm talking about how the story was presented. In no way at all does that mean I approve of what happened. Just because the media have always done this, doesn't mean we should not mention it. Imagine what else they are sensationalizing for ratings.

@QuixoticSoul Again, I'm not talking about the story, nor do I approve of what happened. I'm also not claiming that bad reporting is the bigger issue here.

@HUNT5M4N I’m not saying that we can’t talk about media spin.

I am saying that it’s entirely irrelevant in this case and in this post.

I’m also saying that people need to stop buy the “fake news” horseshit. People need to use their own critical thinking.

Anyway, have a lovely weekend.
@JoeyFoxx I don't buy the fake news crap. I hope you're not implying that. I would also love to see people stop believing every word fed to them by the media. I'm very liberal, by the way. I did not vote for Trump, and I will never vote for a Trump. If that particular discussion isn't relevant or welcome here, I apologize for bringing it up.
JoeyFoxx · 56-60, M
@HUNT5M4N I just didn’t understand why you brought it up in this case.

Seemed out of place.

Sorry if I’ve mischaracterized your response.

@JoeyFoxx

It was also reported that female cheerleaders were dressed in Hooters uniforms.

@beckyromero I live in Alabama. I can assure you that AL.com is a joke media outlet. However, again, I do not approve of what happened. I just had an issue - IN ADDITION - to the way it was reported. I never intended for my response to escalate to this point. I'm not sure what else to add.

@HUNT5M4N

What difference does it make WHO reported on it?

Besides, pictures are worth a thousand words.
@beckyromero Do you ask that same question regarding national news outlets, or just on the local level?

"This segment of the program is brought to you by Pfizer..."

Yeah, I can't think of a single reason why it matters.

@HUNT5M4N Lmao bringing anti-vax conspiracies into this particular topic is remarkably nuts.
