The trend has more to do with one single industry not one single nation. Most also use numbers from 2015 to blame China and they have been moving off coal for about 10 years now.

They always show pictures of Bejing(sp?) with air so polluted that it looks like thick fog.

@BigBulge That is why China has spent about the last decade moving away from coal and is one of the biggest centres for development in renewable energy like solar. Same thing happened in England, they didn't bother with innovating cleaner burning coal plants to people were literally choking on "London Fog."
