Gov DeSantis is threatening to issue "millions" in fines over local vaccine mandate

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said Monday that the state will fine cities and counties $5,000 for each employee required to get vaccinated, the Tampa Bay Times reports.

"You don’t just cast aside people who have been serving faithfully over this issue, over what’s basically a personal choice over their individual health." He later added, "Oh yeah, but we still don't want abortion." (He didn't add that. In words.)

Deaths in the state comprised over 20% of COVID-related deaths across the U.S. last week, per AP.

He wants to effectively kill his base of voters. What’s the point of being happy if you are dead?

@iamonfire696 he doesn't want to kill anyone. He respects their freedom to make their own choices.

@xp47rb well I guess your freedom equates to death then. Good for you for literally dying on that hill because people refuse to be vaccinated.

@xp47rb But down here we don't have to respect a woman's choice? Down here we don't have to respect the right of lgbtq people? Down here we don't have to respect the lives and health of others' family members? Down here the ones who get respect are the ones who speak English? Please.

Our idiot is one of two or three governors who have not taken a multi-million dollar covid relief package from the federal government. The state with the highest single covid and covid death rate.

From what I have read Graylight every state has gotten some federal money. Ranging from about 8000-22000 dollars per capita.

@Graylight my nurse friends in the US are getting recruitment incentive emails to go to Florida and texas because they are so short staffed and the bonuses are $50,000 and up.

This is a pandemic of the unvaccinated and it’s awful because adults cannot be vaccinated and neither can children.

@PTCdresser57 I apologize. My characterization of it made it hard to track down. It's actually related to feeding kids and funding as a result of the pandemic:
Gov. Ron DeSantis’ administration has not yet applied for up to $820 million in food assistance to more than 2 million Florida children, raising concerns from food assistance groups and others who note that child hunger remains a significant problem.

The federal program, called the Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer program, was created last year to help feed children who missed meals because they weren’t attending schools in person during the pandemic. The program deposits money to a card for families of children who qualify for free or reduced meals at their school. It was created by the federal government last year to ensure children were still being fed while they attended school remotely.
