Gov DeSantis is threatening to issue "millions" in fines over local vaccine mandate

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said Monday that the state will fine cities and counties $5,000 for each employee required to get vaccinated, the Tampa Bay Times reports.

"You don’t just cast aside people who have been serving faithfully over this issue, over what’s basically a personal choice over their individual health." He later added, "Oh yeah, but we still don't want abortion." (He didn't add that. In words.)

Deaths in the state comprised over 20% of COVID-related deaths across the U.S. last week, per AP.

Good for him!

And I love how the media and the left so desperately try to make both DeSantis and Florida sound so horrible, when the reality here is the complete opposite.

People are happy and free here. You find worse overcrowding in New York hospitals (and yes, despite biased statistics, i know this to be true), and state-wide DeSantis enjoys one of the highest approval ratings of any governor currently in office.

@PrivateHell People are dying here at record rates. People here can't read at grade level upon graduation. We have, on average, 12% fewer bachelor degrees in this state than in other states. No other state witnessed as many fraud reports per capita as Florida throughout 2017. Red tide is not only now an annual issue, it's become a critical one for the entire Eastern seaboard. That's on us and DeSantis. Of course, there's all that work he's done protecting the Everglades against big sugar and water, which is none.

Among all voters, DeSantis’ net approval rating has plunged 14 percentage points over the past two months. . He's still popular among conservatives, but they've been hallucinating for 6 years now. Among all voters, the man is on a greased slide.(https://www.forbes.com/sites/tommybeer/2021/09/02/gov-desantis-net-approval-rating-drops-14-points-amid-covid-spike-poll-finds/?sh=272434091117)

But you're right about overcrowding - we're solving that problem as fast as we can.
@Graylight let me venture a guess... and you don't even have to tell me if i am right or wrong (because i really don't care). You are in one of the bigger cities, like Miami, Orlando or Tampa.

When I first came to Florida, I was warned those places are heavily populated, but in no way represent the state. After traveling around the state for I while, I saw they were right about this view.

There is so much hyperbole and nonsensical divide between Conservatives and Liberals now days. When in truth, neither is as bad or evil as we try so hard to make them sound. Nor are they as great as we believe.

Sure thing dude, keep raging against the machine.

@PrivateHell I don't mind telling you where I am, and you're right. I'm from South Orlando and it's a nightmare here as far as population. The problem I have with Florida is this: it swings as hard or harder than the rest of the country. I'm in what they call a very blue area for the state (I beg, beg, beg to differ and would like to show anyone willing to take a tour all the Trump signs and the billboards within a 45 mile diameter).

But venture out of the populated blue areas and you're not just in rural red territory, you're in a place where you're political and other views could get you hurt in the wrong circumstance. I think the people who live in the larger cities cling to them like a life rafts because the sea of low education really does flow roughly here.

This is just my opinion of the area. Personally, I'm here for the beaches.
@Graylight i am here for the beaches as well. So we at least have that common ground.

But i do believe you are exaggerating a bit about being hurt for political opinions outside the main cities. I am in the panhandle now, but spent a year in Kissimmee and have made trips to Tampa and Miami. Yes, i have noticed somewhat of a political divide, but nowhere near as hostile on either side as i have seen in other states or online. I actually have people i talk to in person here that are Liberal and we get along without name calling, personal attacks or emotional outbursts.

@PrivateHell As long as there are good ol' boys in trucker caps with gigantic wheels on their pickup and two full size flags planted firmly in place - one for Trump and one for the confederacy - then I'll consider it extreme. And that's in the blue area. I'm beginning to think color is a matter of degrees.

No, it's not Deliverance. But I have been to a couple fish camps where I got confused.
