How many deaths by police in your city this year, so far?

In my hometown... 2.

In the city i currently live in... 0.

The two deaths were unrelated and on different days. In both, the suspect fired first and was attempting to fight or run. So both were justified.

There were 1021 police shootings Nationwide in 2020, the police statistics are a tricky thing. Not every jurisdiction keeps records of specific events and specific events are defined all different kinds of ways to make numbers look better throughout us jurisdictions.

But it's too many people. Nowhere else in the civilized world of developing nations do so many citizens murder each other and nowhere in the western world is the incarceration rate so high as in the US.

Maybe we hang up the guns for a while and stop treating beat police like they're tactical militia.

@Graylight If cops should hang up guns then make the criminals also.

@SatanBurger To be clear, I wasn't suggesting we take arms away from police forces. I'm implying that the police and the military were never meant to resemble one another.

As for "remove the guns and only the criminals will have guns," that's a lazy, old and debunked position.

Not many. Don't know the exact number but we are less trigger happy in general and we have been in multiple lockdowns since 2020 which also decreased the likelihood of confrontations with police.

How many shootings not by police but by others in Chicago or other cities this year?

@SatanBurger last I saw, I think it was 775 people shot by others in Chicago this, including like close to or over 80 over the Labor Day weekend...even though Illinois and Chicago especially have one of the most stringent set of gun control laws. Now, people like to say that "oh it's because they're going across in to Indiana and buying guns." Ummm...no. the overwhelming majority of the guns used are illegally purchased through the criminal black market. So many shootings and murders go unsolved because there's no weapon registration on the books. Most of these people who use this argument have most likely never filled out a form 4473 for buying a gun. It's quite a process and the gun you just bought is entered in to the FBI and ATF registration system under it's serial number and the test fire cartridge and bullet is also on record. if that doesn't exist i.e. the illegal guns used by the criminals of Chicago, then there's very little they can do to match a gun to a crime.

As far as I know, none. We just had our first murder of the year a couple of weeks ago.
