This crisis was planned out to the nines! Want to bet we will be back with even more troops! I’m not agreeing with this. The MIC is upset.

@Oster1 Watch us not reinvade Afghanistan.

In all respects, we were only there to guard and help in distributing the poppy fields and ultimately the heroin. We also were there to help protect the mining by the Chinese of rare earth metals. We all know the Chinese are chomping at the bit to make a deal, without us. This is only the foolish reason, everyone has been and is there now. The Taliban despised the poppy fields. We always played both sides, going back to the Mujahideen.@QuixoticSoul

@Oster1 That's just blatant silliness. If we were concerned about the poppy fields, we wouldn't have paid pre-invasion Taliban to interdict them, something they were quite effective at doing. If Taliban hated poppy fields so much, they wouldn't have relied on them for funds over the last twenty years. And if we were especially set on the rare earth metals, we never would have left in the first place.
Don't worry, you'll see I'm correct in a few months.

@QuixoticSoul It will be interesting to see how it all plays out.
The Taliban, burnt the fields repeatedly. The rare earth metals were the gift to the Chinese.
The Taliban were paid, so much more than the Poppies could ever bring in. They needed the Heroin money to fund black ops, off the books.
This is only the same game plan, used time over time.

@Oster1 The Taliban burned the fields while we were paying them. When we went to war with them, they stopped burning, and started taxing. If any of this stuff was over poppies, we would have simply not have run our interdiction programs there pre-2001. If the rare earth stuff played a significant role, we would have actually attempted to develop that industry instead of doing nothing for twenty years.
I know it's strange, but we were never there for any significant actual reason, this has been a long and expensive face-saving operation that produced nothing and eventually backfired.

@QuixoticSoul Even though I can agree with some things.
It’s not debatable that we gave up many industries and jobs to the Chinese, going back to the Clinton Administration.
Believe me, they did not nickname GHW Bush, Poppy for nothing!
