You are correct in that the left of the past used to stand for having an open mind. But the neo left has become as you have described. Somewhere along the way, they stopped listening and wanted everyone to think the same way they did. Or else they tried to silence them. Not sure how that happened, except to say, sometimes you become that which you fought so hard against. It happens.

to become a hypocrite is prolly the worst experience for some. sometimes i experienced it and it was very unpleasant [thought it was another topic]
SayWhat · 41-45, M
Well the neo left got into calling people names, instead of having a dioulouge with them. You can't really create policy that way. For one, you don't really know what people are thinking if you silence them. Second, you will never win any hearts or minds. I think the neo left is starting to realize that now.

Mostly true. I don't think they even care about being heard anymore, it's just about silencing people at this point.

i have these mindset that those who wanted clinton wanted the power to silence the right... i don't want to offend if [whether you're a clinton supporter or neither]
Sicarium · 46-50, M
@quinnVneck: Maybe. But, really, I think they just assumed Hillary would win because they had successfully silenced everyone already, or demonized them to the point that nobody would pay attention. I also think that's why there's been such a childish response by some on the left to the election.
Ironically, the tolerance demanded by the progressive left usually demands alignment with their views, or else.
And the answer is TRUE. Silencing dissension is critical to pushing your agenda through.

They're Stalinists at this point. Look. Obama set back race relations in the US 20 years. Thank God she didn't win.

Socialism through to communism. America doesn't really have a 'left'.

100% true, freedom of speech only applies when the left likes what you are saying.
Then you are a racist, a woman hater, homophobic
And intolerant.
Just for saying,"I dont agree."
In the 20th and 21st century, the left has murdered hundreds of millions of people who disagreed with them and imprisoned millions.
Whether it is a health care tax or a gulag, the left is always oppressive.
quinnVneck · 31-35, F
i think the right wings are the ones trying to bring back freedom of speech now, while the left may be a bit more sensitive with some words...
fazer1k · 56-60, M
@Atrevido1: Everyone who has differing viewpoints can argue those. I don't see that as discrimination.

I would also say freedom of speech is more threatened by the right from what i see happening. I read Trump threatened to silence certain aspects of the U.S. media at one point. In the UK the conservative government (right) are the ones threatening freedoms here and silencing opinions they don't like. They have starred dictating what we can and can't see on the internet and are currently seeking to silence and ban the activities of a UK far right group. Whereas I do not identify with far right wing views, I do dislike people's freedoms being threatened and diminished. Any government doing that is really just a dictatorship.

Leftists are tolerant as long as you agree with them. Otherwise you are a fascist.
Picklebobble · 56-60, M
Ok. Much as political posts annoy the sh*t out of me. I have to ask, where and in what context are you using the term 'Leftist' ?
quinnVneck · 31-35, F
maybe i might be wrong to name reference perhaps i meant today's neo left?
Picklebobble · 56-60, M
@quinnVneck: Well the term 'leftist' implies an extreme.
Neo leftist implies even more extreme !
Which when taken as a whole, as in your question. Means that whatever answer anyone might give you, it's unlikely to be taken as a response worth explaining !
They also sound like terminology used by far right groups to further their ideals.
Nationalism; racism; anti-ism etc.
