UK people who know about the UK political system, how is it a democracy when the unelected H of L has a veto on bills?

The bills have only gained the support of Parliament but not necessarily the electorate (unless there’s a referendum) therefore the House of Lords has power to veto to prevent parliament making bills only to suit itself.
