All politicians do this. Rep and dem. No politician should be doing this at all.

Most of them know that the majority of Americans prefer the policies of the Democrats.

Right now, it is clear that power trumps truth.

Mitch is salivating for control, and he & Lindsey and others have realized that standing up for the truth is not in their short-term interests, though it would strengthen the current de facto party of conservatives.

They also realize that they are a minority party, and only by screwing with access to voting, keeping the Electoral College, etc., can they maintain a pretense of power.

They’re not even really relying on lies to get votes right now. Instead their plan seems to be to make voting as difficult as possible for people likely to vote Democratic and then rely on gerrymandering and the outsized political power of rural whites that’s built into the Constitution to rule in spite of not having the support of a plurality; furthermore, the Democratic Party is beholden enough to big business, though not nearly so much so as the Republican Party, that they’re just going to roll over and let Republicans make election laws to ensure their dominance at the federal, state, and local levels for at least a generation. Soon we’re going to be like Russia. Sure, we have “open elections”, but everyone will already know who’s going to win.

Their values aren't actually popular to the majority so they realize that they are losing.

I don't like conservatives or liberals but I know that liberals lie WAY more than conservatives.

Lies form their collective identity.
