@SW-User If you've seen the movie "Casino," there's a scene when someone comes to see Robert de Niro when he's in his office, and when he gets up from his desk, he's not wearing pants for that reason. So when he puts his pants on to meet with his visitor, they're not wrinkled.

Regardless, it is weird that Trump was wearing pants without a fly. Even if they were tailored to not have a real fly, they'd have a fake one just to look normal. Here's an example:

@LeopoldBloom im not with trump but formal pants do get uncomfortable while sitting. He is pushing 70.

@SW-User Also, Trump was standing up at the podium. I didn't see the speech, but I assume he walked onto the stage. At no point between putting those pants on and giving the speech should he have been sitting down.

Again, he should have a wardrobe person to handle this. It's not like this was his first time on TV.

@SW-User Since he knew he would be going on stage, he should have ducked into a dressing room right before stepping out in a pair of unworn, uncreased pants. This is wardrobe management 101.

And yeah, that's another thing. It's customary to keep your jacket buttoned when you're standing up. You only unbutton it when you sit down to keep from stretching the buttons.
