I never understood why "liberal" became a bad word since liberals from [b]both[/b] parties are responsible for most of our freedoms.

I agree.. it shouldn't be a bad word. In a classical sense liberal has meant exactly what you say, freedom.. liberty.. etc. So many ideas and words have been used and abused. It's such a mess. I consider myself a classical liberal in many ways, but I'm constantly put down by those who claim to be the only real liberals. They define what it means to be liberal in such an absolute and restrictive ways as to continually alienate every day folks with liberal leanings like me. Of course the right does this too.. it's part of the polarizing process politicians and media use to control our votes and support.
