Is Isreal simply protecting themselves

Israel is targeting the people of Gaza, apartment buildings, the media. The death count is 20 to 1. If you were punched in the face would it be fair to kill 5 people. Are the Palestinians caught in the middle of Hamas and Israel.

Let's see what really happened here

- In violation of the international laws, Israeli forces attempt to evict Palestinian families from their homes in the neighborhood of Shiekh Jarrah (which is located in East Jerusalem, a recognized Palestinian territory under international laws). The families refuse to evict, they fight back, they get beaten by the Israelis, some even get arrested.

- Worshippers at Al Aqsa decide to protest the eviction of the Palestinian families. They get attacked (mostly by Zionist nationalists backed by Israeli soldiers). They fight back by pelting stones. The Israeli forces storm Al Aqsa with stun grenades and rubber bullets. The clashes end with more than 300 Palestinians injured, of which +200 were hospitalized with serious conditions. On the other side, 21 Israeli are injured.

- Between Al Aqsa clashes and Hamas firing rockets, more reports emerge of Zionist nationalist groups attacking Palestinian civilians in the streets, running them over with cars, or beating them up. It's not clear if the Israeli forces have done anything to arrest and stop these Zionist extremists.

- Hamas fires rockets at Israel saying they're responding to injuring +300 Palestinians in Al-Aqsa clashes. Israel replies by bombing Gaza, bringing residential buildings to the ground with its residents, and targeting press offices, and medical clinics and facilities including the only Covid-19 testing lab in Gaza.

-So far the death toll in Gaza tops +200, of which +60 are children and +31 are women. Around 40,000 people in Gaza have been displaced during the week-long escalation. As of 17 May, 10 Israelis were killed by Hamas airstrikes.

The way I see it, Hamas is still playing the same game but Israel is to be blamed for this round of fight as it continues its apartheid practice of evicting Palestinians from their homes in E-Jerusalem which doesn't only break international laws and violates human rights but also serves to provide Hamas with the chance to appear as if "it's only defending its people". In the meantime, the only victims here are the civilians on both sides, especially the Palestinian people who are paying a very high price as they're being caught in the middle between a state trying to ethnically cleanse them and a terrorist militia.
