To the American conservatives eager to abolish Roe vs Wade. You might want to ask your fellow conservatives in Poland how well that worked out.

Question - how far into a pregnancy should a woman be allow to have an abortion?
@DownTheStreet Are we really going to go into the urban legend that late term abortions are a common thing?
DownTheStreet · 51-55, M
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow I’m sure I didn’t say that, instead I asked a simple question.
@DownTheStreet Also there are alot of factors to consider not just some arbitrary number of weeks.
DownTheStreet · 51-55, M
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow take a simple case, healthy woman has unprotected sex and gets pregnant but does not want to keep the baby.
@DownTheStreet That is not how it works. We both know laws are not applied on a per case basis so a one size fits all based on best case scenario is inherently an issue.
DownTheStreet · 51-55, M
So we ought to review on a case by case basis. Hmm. We could have abortion tribunals or something like that. @PicturesOfABetterTomorrow
@DownTheStreet Or we could treat a medical procedure like an actual medical procedure instead of a religious trial. Novel concept.
DownTheStreet · 51-55, M
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow yeah I get that but I’m just wondering at what point you think it’s no longer acceptable for someone (a woman) not to have an abortion. These are things courts are
Going to have to decide, doctors operate withint he boundaries of laws. So in the simple likely most common case, healthy woman gets pregnant wants an abortion, what would you say to society, the Supreme Court, doctors, and woman, is a reasonable timeline?
@DownTheStreet There already are strict guidelines on late term abortions anyway so there is not really any need to re-litigate that.
DownTheStreet · 51-55, M
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow so we should just keep those, whatever they are, depending on the state?
@DownTheStreet In the US there is not really any alternative short of rewriting the constitution. Whether it makes sense or not the US system is designed that way.

The guidelines regardless of state should be determined based on medicine not by judges on a religious crusade.
@DownTheStreet I also don't see why there is a need to re-litigate something that is not an issue outside the religious right who want to abolish all abortions, no exceptions.
DownTheStreet · 51-55, M
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow wait, you’re Canadian. Don’t you have any Canadian things to worry about before advising Americans on theirs? Like, let’s talk about ... senate elections someday? Or maybe separatist Quebec? Or how the west gets neglected by your parliamentary system with liberals getting only a handful of votes west of Ontario. We could talk about your basic failing in just about ever aspect of NATO, but being a socialist I doubt you have any aptitude for military affairs. But thanks for chiming in on American politics. Now go see if you can find the Canadian Supreme Court and see what they’ve done lately.
DownTheStreet · 51-55, M
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow the religious right are entitled to their views, just like, say, the catholic majority that has dominated Quebec politics since the days of fur trading up there
@DownTheStreet 🤦‍♂️ And now resorting to nativist bullshit. Now I know you are not serious.

Lol. Try reading a course not by the tabloid Sun Media. Literally all of that is right wing fantasies,

And I come from a military family you little armchair general.
@DownTheStreet And good job proving you are negotiating in bad faith and know jack shit about Canada.
DownTheStreet · 51-55, M
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow oh oh Canada is upset, they get like that when their advice to Americans is turned back into the basic “we could honestly care less what Canadians think...they’re irrelevant.” I know the country’s pride has taken hit owing to not having won a Stanley Cup since 1993 —and that was those damn frenchies the CanadiEns. I’ll alert the border guards for signs of the invasion - a resurrected General Brock leading three ancient British surplus jeeps over the border. I’ll ask them to make coffee. We will send Gretzky back to mediate; perhaps he can tackle the thorny American abortion issue that is weighing heavy on the socialist Canadian mindset. It will work out; you’ll still have time to threaten in the Spanish over turbot fishing rights and be home in time to ignore western Canada.
DownTheStreet · 51-55, M
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow oh oh, the country is angry. Five keeps now, the last one carry Laura Secord. Bring boxes though, we can give you some extra covid vaccines. I understand they are in short supply. We will charge mere loonies or twonies for them. Even better, gravy for the cheese curds for the French fries. War can still be averted; no need to wake Trudeau, he’s had a tough time doing nothing. Also, did you get your invite to the G7 this year? We are eager for syrup exports.
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@DownTheStreet What’s wrong with the ole viability guideline used for this sort of thing in most of the civilized world?
DownTheStreet · 51-55, M
@QuixoticSoul I’m not arguing for or against it
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@DownTheStreet Well there’s your answer.
@DownTheStreet And more nativist bullshit and insane ramblings.

And if Montreal doesn't win for another 30 years the Yankee teams might catch up eventually.
@DownTheStreet And it is funny that you support a bunch of right wingers from Alberta who are very confused about what country they live in. They think they are an outpost of Texas.
@DownTheStreet And even our last right wing nutbar PM Harper knew touching the abortion issue was political suicide so not even your comrades over here support you on this one.
DownTheStreet · 51-55, M
I just wanted to know what he thought, but then he took a slap shot at me, fortunately it went off the post. Personally I’m in favor of abortion with limits based on term, subject to qualified medical opinion based on risks to the mother and child. What I can’t quite reconcile in my mind is the role the father should have in all this. On one hand, the baby is being carried by the mother - it’s her body. But on the other hand, the man has something to do with it, too — I mean, the moment it hits the ground men are on the hook for child support. Yet I don’t spend much time thinking about it. @QuixoticSoul
