It is not sentient, it does not [i]want to live[/i].
Indeed some would even dispute that it is a living organism as it cannot reproduce without the machinery of other cells.
We should distinguish between value judgements like "And it also [i]deserves[/i] to live." and others like "And it should not be exterminated because it is a necessary part of the ecosystem."
I'm not claiming that the latter applies to SARS-COV-2 or any other corona virus but it does apply to other organisms that some would rashly exterminate.
