Can someone explain Trump's slogan to me?

First of all, this is a genuine question, not just an excuse to rant at anyone who supports Trump. His supporters are entitled to their views...but would anyone please be willing to help me understand them?

First: Can someone please explain to me what people mean by "make America great again?" I mean, sure America has its problems, but it seems to me that compared to the rest of the world, America is still pretty great. So what exactly is it that makes Trump feel America isn't great?

2nd: When Trump says he's going to make America great AGAIN, to what point in history is he referring? When does he think America was great, and what about that time made it so much better than he thinks it is now?

Hello olderguy2016. That depends on which definition of 'recent' you choose to apply. Speaking for myself, I'm descended from a mob of illegals whose arrival was unplanned and has subsequently proven to have had a devastating impact on the health, status and wellbeing of the community that accepted them, whom the immigrants soon overwhelmed with superior weapons and numbers. The best response to a tidal wave of political refugees is a co-operative worldwide plan to give them a home. In my humble opinion the best possible home we could give them is the one they were driven out of in the first instance by terrorists. This will require a coordinated international effort. To those who say we should not meddle in other peoples' business I say if it is arriving on our shoreline in leaky fishing boats it is our business, and prevention is better by far than cure.

@olderguy2016: I have traced my ancestry back to 1627, when my ancestors immigrated to the US from England. The most recent immigrant I was able to find in my ancestry came to America from Ireland during the Potato Famine. My ancestors have fought for America in every major war since we became a country.

So no....I'm not a recent immigrant. But I hope you'll answer my question anyway, as I would love to hear your response!
