Can someone explain Trump's slogan to me?

First of all, this is a genuine question, not just an excuse to rant at anyone who supports Trump. His supporters are entitled to their views...but would anyone please be willing to help me understand them?

First: Can someone please explain to me what people mean by "make America great again?" I mean, sure America has its problems, but it seems to me that compared to the rest of the world, America is still pretty great. So what exactly is it that makes Trump feel America isn't great?

2nd: When Trump says he's going to make America great AGAIN, to what point in history is he referring? When does he think America was great, and what about that time made it so much better than he thinks it is now?

I think he means growth over 3%, affordable health care, opportunity for those who want to work, less than 94 million people out of the work force, upward mobility... things like that. The things we lost over the past 8 years.

Hello carpediem. You may be right about that. To succeed in American politics you have to appeal to the lowest common denominator. Like him or not we must accept that America just got the President it voted for. I don't blame Obama, I think the disillusionment of America today runs deeper than politics. Maybe there is no single overall political solution. Maybe that is the reason over 90 Million Eligible Voters Didn't Vote in 2016. Trump is an archetypical businessman. In my personal opinion America needs a re-birth of it's founding ideals, i.e.
“Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed, to me:
I lift my lamp beside the golden door.”
Trump's slogan may as well be 'carpe diem'. The problem with that is we have given too little thought to the future for too long.

@will999: since the beginning the huddled masses came in legally. They were not allowed to cheat the system. That's one issue.

I disagree about appealing to the lowest common denominator. That is pure bullshit. People rejected globalization and the socialism. Obama was leading us down that path. Clinton would have led us further.

Trump changes direction back to growth and opportunity. It's really that simple.

@carpediem: It's really that simple only so long as the hoped for growth and opportunity follows suit. For how long can a major power like the US postpone economic crisis by inflating it's currency? We'll see! And what if Great Britain, France, Russia or perhaps even China decide that they do not trust Japan or Israel with nuclear weapons? Do you? The MAD solution (Mutual Assured Destruction) worked during the cold war because there was only one Rogue State threatening to split the nuclear alliance. Nuclear proliferation would be a bigger threat to civilisation than giving everyone a free handgun and a packet of ammo on their first day at kindergarten. I know I'm covering more than one topic here but they all more or less come under the general heading of Trump's politics.

@will999: Agreed. So long as.... So we shall see what the growth rates wind up as compared the past 8 years. I gambled my vote on growth. I believe voting Hillary was a death sentence for any growth opportunities.
will999 · 70-79, M
@carpediem: At least you thought to vote. That is at least one outlook I agree with you on. Too many people take democracy for granted. Political freedom is nothing more and nothing less than what you choose to do with it. What sort of growth are you talking about and how do you measure it?
ProfRS · 61-69, M
@carpediem: Holy shit....I thought you were joking about the 'huddled masses coming in legally'...that is classic. Can I use it...I like writing comedy, you can't write crap that good. Lest I be accused of just being a 'troll'...please read: Undocumented: How Immigration Became Illegal by Aviva Chomsky. Great book...I still might use your line however...lol
carpediem · 61-69, M
@ProfRS: piss and moan all you want. The borders are being secured. End of story.
ProfRS · 61-69, M
@carpediem: Spoken like a true 'terrorist'...got love it. I think Isis is looking for people to do their PR job. Here is some other slogans you can use based on your comments above; "Might is Right"..."It is true because I said it"...excellent logic. You are a prick...like all the people that want to just be 'right'....oh..yeah, I am right, "end of story" By the way, just so you know, when you want me to be 'outraged' at stupid ass Americans (like yourself) who think EXACTLY LIKE YOU but are of different belief system, get killed remind me not to give a shit, as you scream about how 'unpatriotic' or 'insensitive' I am...or my real favorite...'you don't support this great country'....Excellent! :P
carpediem · 61-69, M
@ProfRS: Go fuck yourself little crybaby. Maybe a therapy doggie would help. LOL

TRUMP 👊. LOL
carpediem · 61-69, M
@carpediem: You know Professor Idiot, it's complete morons like YOU that got Trump elected. Your smug elitist attitude. You're asinine view of the world. It's over. Failed. The people are running jerk-offs like you and your kind away from the tenants of government all over the world. Not a moment too soon.

Congratulations. You elected Trump. And I thank you... dumbass.
ProfRS · 61-69, M
@carpediem: Wait, now I am confused. Do you think I voted for Trump? Ain't history a bitch. I have to tell you. I really, really, really wish I were 6 feet tall. You know what I keep doing...buying clothes for a 6 feet tall man. They never, ever, ever fit...those bastard retailers that keep telling me I am 5'7". I just keep screaming at them...I am 6 feet tall! I am 6 feet tall! I even told those damn 'elitist' retailers with their 'fancy' ass measuring instruments....and 'fancy' 'numbers'...to not bother me...just give me my 6 feet clothes. I hate it when they try to bring me back to material reality. I want to be 6 feet tall! (Now all together, I want to live in an America that didn't have slavery, but I want people to honor the documents written by some of those slave owners! All together now!)....Again, one more time, with feeling...I am 6 feet tall! (I want to pretend that the U.S elite and its corporate sponsors were not involved in illegal operations all over the world!...all together now!) I am a 6 feet tall. Carpediem, say it with me a few more times, I know we can make it really, really, really true...if we just keep screaming it....come on, you can do it! :)

@ProfRS: are you mentally challenged?
ProfRS · 61-69, M
I am 6 feet tall! The European people did not come to the Americas (not the original name) and kill the indigenous people! I a am 6 feet tall! The U.S. capitalist system did not kill thousands and thousands of people in Latin America as part of its foreign policy! I am 6 feet tall! The U.S has ALWAYS honored its treaties with all native peoples, and foreign countries (and communities). I am 6 feet tall! No dummy you are mentally challenged. You want to live in a 'make believe' world. Where you can speak about immigration (and other issues) as though the rest of the world, and history, doesn't matter. Sorry that is not the way reality works. Let me end by saying even as I don't agree (or probably) like you, I know you have a history and experiences. I will try my best to listen and honor them. All that people are asking (demanding) is that their experiences (experiences of slavery, land that was stolen, election results not honored, treaties not honored etc.) be honored also. Obviously you don't have to do this. But (and this is what makes you 'mentally challenged') whether you honor or accept it doesn't change it or make it not so. Like I said...I would LIKE TO BE 6 feet tall. But I am not! Whether I like it or not, reality doesn't change because I am 5'7" or because you are a 'proud American'.
carpediem · 61-69, M
@ProfRS: What a nut case. LOL. As an American I can and shall say whatever the hell I want. That's the way it works here you nut. We have freedom. I don't care if you or the rest of world likes it or not. Now go away you wacko.
ProfRS · 61-69, M
I am 6 feet tall! :) I can say whatever the hell I want! I am 6 feet tall. I have freedom! :P One of us is a wacko! LOL Actually, I am done talking to you...because you really are crazy...by the way, just one more thing....I am 6 feet tall! :P
carpediem · 61-69, M
@ProfRS: Holy shit. You're a complete nut...
