Can someone explain Trump's slogan to me?

First of all, this is a genuine question, not just an excuse to rant at anyone who supports Trump. His supporters are entitled to their views...but would anyone please be willing to help me understand them?

First: Can someone please explain to me what people mean by "make America great again?" I mean, sure America has its problems, but it seems to me that compared to the rest of the world, America is still pretty great. So what exactly is it that makes Trump feel America isn't great?

2nd: When Trump says he's going to make America great AGAIN, to what point in history is he referring? When does he think America was great, and what about that time made it so much better than he thinks it is now?

He is a businessman, so likely all his references to "Great" has to do with his easy access to money.

LOL. What an airhead. Politicians have the easy access to money. My money. Businesses have to pledge assets. Their assets.

@carpediem: Not only that if they can't raise enough money in taxes they simply print more which undermines the value of the currency. The US government held the $35 per ounce price until August 15, 1971, when President Richard Nixon announced that the United States would no longer convert dollars to gold at a fixed value, thus completely abandoning the gold standard. Why did President Richard Nixon do that? At the time America was engaged in yet another costly foreign war and the government simply couldn't afford to pay for it honestly so it just printed more dollars. And the legacy he left us all is funny money. Before I gave it up about forty years ago my last pack of Marlboro smokes cost me $0.40, Australian. The price today is closer to $40.00. A similar shift has occurred in the cost of most goods and services, of which you must be aware.

@will999: Thought we were talking Trump, not Nixon. No clue why Nixon did that. I doubt it was for the reason you refer to. But I agree with you about printing money. During Obama, they called it quantitative easing.

@carpediem: Hi again. Both sides of politics use various euphemisms for it, and it does have a limited power to benefit the economy, but we must recognise it's limitations otherwise it's like treating cancer with aspirin.

@will999: agreed

@will999 Do you realize that under obama the fed government printed about $85 billion a DAY? Yep, almost the entire 8 years. It slowed down slightly in 2016.
