Because it's a legitimate issue and a fascinating social study that illustrates the depth of systematic racism.
Yes, of course people of all races, cultures, body types, religions and socio-economic tiers have issue with masks. But there is a noticeable trend among white Americans to draw upon centuries of entitlement in their opposition to public safety and hygiene. White leaders have over and over asserted their power and dominion over facts, science, nature and natural consequences to thoughtless and selfish behavior.
This is not a new issue, nor will it be sorted out any time soon, certainly not as long as the worst offender fail to recognize the issues. But it's a legitimate phenomenon and it's now having tangible consequences. Hoe many families have help funeral due to the selfish negligence of someone else? Hard to say, but it's more than a few given the millions and millions we've lost.

@Graylight It's really not a legitimate issue. Assuming people who don't get the covid vaccine are all white is racist since it's assuming a lot. The liberal news specifically focuses on one race and you'll find what you're looking for depending on news source. The headline of the NBC article is confirmation bias.
Graylight · 51-55, F
@SatanBurger Please define "liberal news," because NBC has been as mainstream as any source available for the past 70 years.
So when you guys want to discount things you hear and throw out meaningless terms like 'radical left' and 'liberal media,' what working definitions are you guys actually using? Do you even know? Or are your just the parrots of echo chamber rhetoric and talking points? Shills, in other words?
And when I need race issues or anthropological insight, you can be assured the GOP, conservative and Republican arenas are the ones I will pretend don't even exist.

@Graylight Okay well back to the main point, assuming people who don't get the covid vaccine are all white is racist since it's assuming only white people don't want vaccines. Nbc assumes by putting one race in the title of their post.
Graylight · 51-55, F
@SatanBurger Tell you what - if others don't like the label or name, if those affected by a policy or pattern of behavior don't like it, if others say to you this is an important issue to them due to their race, creed, fashion, whatever, why don't you leave it up to them to inform you on whether it's racist or not. Hard to call a baseball game when you've never even seen the sport.
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@Graylight So again back to the main point, it's racist to assume it's all white people because five people holding anti vaxx signs just happen to be white, sorry it's just bad reporting on NBC's part.
if others say to you this is an important issue to them due to their race, creed, fashion, whatever, why don't you leave it up to them to inform you on whether it's racist or not.
😂
The headline is racist and it's talking about my race, white and so I'll tell myself that the headline is racist.... about my race.
Okay, I informed myself.
Happy?

@SatanBurger Just because race is mentioned in a conversation hardly means it's a racial conversation.
Karen is a pejorative term for a woman seeming to be entitled or demanding beyond the scope of what is normal. Period. No race mentioned, no socio-economic background specified. But in order to feel consistently entitled beyond reason is hard to pull off unless you're in a comfortable majority.
Maybe if it stings, it's because it should.

@Graylight "Can we change these white covid 19 rejectors mind in time?"
"Can we change these covid 19 rejectors mind in time?"
Context.
Not all rejectors are white. Nbc's confirmation bias doesn't make it true. Give me a subject and I can find facts that will make the case for nearly everything.
Furthermore, you're saying that just because race is mentioned doesn't make it racist but it doesn't make it not racist either.
Depending on context, it can be very racist.
No race is mentioned because Karen isn't a race, white is a race. You see the difference?

@Northwest So white people threaten herd immunity any more than black people who refuse the vaccine?
1 in 4 Americans don't want to be vaccinated. You can't tell me all 1 in 4 are all white everywhere in America.

Graylight · 51-55, F
@SatanBurger I have seen easily a dozen stories on the reluctance of minorities to be vaccinated. It's across the board.
No it's not endemically a race issue. Yes, NBC might have refrained or chosen other timing. But in a world where we've lived with 4 years of ugly, jingoistic racist attitudes, speech, behavior and legislation. I hardly think NBC is the culprit here. This is a strawman argument.
How 'bout concentrate on the 'mask' part and not so much on anything else.

@Graylight You want to talk about strawman but you went on a long rant about general racism and then in the second part of your comment said you don't think nbc is the culprit here, implying as you went on about general racism that the main point was general racism than the wording of nbc's title.
Nice projection though 👍
At any rate I've seen racism from everyone. Actually, a half black person is commonly called racist names if they have a white parent.
Very common in schools. It's very common for black hood people to make racial comments if a black person acts white.
Soooooo common.
So get off your high horse and keep on the main subject, all you keep wanting to do is preach.

@SatanBurger What in hell are you saying? Yes, focused cases of racism tie into larger, systemic and historical racism in this country. It's the same conversation.
Yes, there's racism everywhere. You win the point. Good job. That's not the real point, though, is it?
The point is that racism anywhere shouldn't be tolerated and majority groups can not be racially persecuted. Period. That's what makes them the majority. And many observable anthropological phenomena can be identified along racial lines. That doesn't make it racist, you idjit. It implies race is involved, nothing else.
How sad when, in the US, the call for a stem to racism and greater social justice should be considered preaching.
You might want to take a look at how strenuously and often you defend the right to be racists and learn nothing.

@Graylight The real point was how the news words things like NBC. This is what I mean about preaching.
Graylight · 51-55, F
@SatanBurger Okay. I countered that. This is what we call obstinacy.
